I don't know why people aren't way, way more concerned about using Android phones.

Well, that is conundrum of an open source OS. Anyone can play, which means that you need to be a bit more careful about what you buy/how you use.

I guess the moral of the story is - don't trust your device's baseline security.

If it's a device with internet connectivity, it is susceptible to being compromised. Doesn't matter if it's Android, iOS, BlackBerry, Windows...

Most of these exploits I've been seeing are on off-brand Chinese phones
