Normally, the only time that I think of route or router being pronounced as root or rooter would be if i was conversing with someone that normally spoke British English vs American English. |

We also pronounce spanner as wrench and boot as trunk. The one that gets me is when the Brits pronounce Aluminum as Aluminium. |

To me this is a bit stupid, but queen's english is close to how we speak in Canada, so I would say I live at Rural Route (root) #1, but as a child I had a paper route (rout).
I've heard it both ways, never thought anything of it. I think if you were to trace most english words many of them are now pronounced incorrectly. How about color vs colour? Dropping the U is strictly an american thing, almost out of laziness. Or how you pronounce Z as Zee, when we say Zed. You got to admit a Camaro Z28 sounds way more bad ass when we call it a "Zedder" or Zed 28. Quote:
I've never said dived, to me that's like saying mouses instead of mice. BTW I'm a NAUI scuba diver since I was 13 years old, at the time I was the youngest certified NAUI "junior" diver in Canada. BTW do you say "routine" r-out-ine or roo-tine? |

Which is pronounced the same as diverse, means the same thing, and was an accepted and common spelling of "diverse" for a long time ;) |

Many think it tastes great, personally I've always hated gravy on fries. Hate to be a snob, but it's food for common tastebuds. |
I'm seeing alot of spelling errors from you guys...

I think I used alot earlier to see if anyone would catch it.:D
We homeschooled our kids and did some co-op with other parents, I was double checking a boys essay for his mom and she had put in note "alot is not a word, it's a lot". Beneath the note in very tiny printing was "My mom sucks alot." ;) |
