Rolling Stones on HBO
They give their audience a lota bang for their buck... But they still remind me of the Beach Boys playing their moldy oldies. I think the Madison Square Garden venue rather than a stadium show is better....the last stadium show I saw of theirs su(ked, and I liked this show. Keith played with more clarity and finesse than I have ever heard from him before. There was a long period in the 70's and 80's where his playing was muddy. The only one who plays a worse guitar than Keith is Ronnie Wood...can you imagine Ronnie playing slide guitar vs hearing Ry Cooder play slide on the orginal recordings? Bobby Keys stole the show with his solo on "Can't You Hear me Knocking" and after that song Jagger seemed to loosen up and the band played with some juice. I can't help but be reminded that the whole show was tightly scripted...as Jagger is a control freak.... and everything is timed. The bright side of that is that they are a tight unit......but if you want to hear a REAL STONES concert plug "Get Yer YA YA's Out" into the machine and hear the difference 33 years and one murder makes.
