Aliexpress is nuts

I've bought stuff on ali and dhgate for a while. Tried to buy a set of bike handlebars yesterday on aliexpress, entered cc info and all was good. Got an email today telling me the transaction was cancelled for "security" reasons and they would reinstate if I sent them scans of a driver's license or passport, a scan of the card, and a pdf of the account statement (its a debit card, so my bank statement).

F them. I'm done. Do they think we're that naive?

Contact your cc company. They may want to change your number for real security reasons.

Not necessarily.

We got hit with some big fraud bills in the past. Would tell people either

a) Wire transfer or
b) Send a scanned copy of the card and a photo ID. (proves possession of the card)

This prevented people from using stolen card numbers. I'd rather lose the sale (never blamed anyone from saying "No way, are you nuts?" than pay one more thief.

That said, no WAY I'd provide that...

I'm not sure why you would do alibaba instead of Amazon just to save a few cents.

That's my two cents.

Anyway, id cancel it and try again somewhere else. Good luck!

You are buying online with a debit card?

Really bad idea, for a variety of reasons.

I cancelled my Visa CC that I'd had through my CU for a dozen years a long time ago. The CU had "sold" it to a service provider....

Recieved a notice from the provider that they would no longer offer protection for online purchases, or for transactions more than 150 miles away from the cards mailing address .

I was on the phone to cancel it immediately....never replaced. I just use my debit...have for 7-8 years now, and don't keep a bundle in checking...

Well you were right to cancel that card but there are hundreds of other choices that do actually provide good benefits. Online protection, car rental insurance, etc.

Unless your debit card is a zero liability card all you've accomplished is cancelling a credit card that had reduced protections in favor of a debit card which at best has equal reduced protections but more likely even less protections than the CC you cancelled.

Net net, you are probably in a more vulnerable position now than if you'd kept and used that CC.

I'm old, but not that old, but I have never known anyone who has ever used a site like
My brain doesn't even register that as a real website, for some reason.
Those massive Asian sites seem to be one of those things you always wonder who exactly uses them.
Like who bought the 20 million Yanni records? Someone, obviously!
