There is the larger tax bill for a new car and the depreciation, no doubt. But the good used ones are not much cheaper than a new one. They are holding their price quite well.

You will get very used to the Macan very soon. Shrewd move on the dealer's part. I say it's OK to make the wife happy.

Yep, not a lot of difference in used. Looked at Macan when upgrading to get the cornering lights and they were still in the $40K range.

The Cayenne are bigger than they look. Can barely fit two width wise in my garage and be able to get in an out without moving one to get into the other. Have to park them just right.

So... is she getting one?

No doubt.

We have the option list picked. We likely will order it through USAA car buying service. That saves over 2 grand. We have to pick it up in Dallas at Park Place Porsche. Unless the local dealer changes their attitude on the price and comes down off of the sticker.

It will take a few months for it to come in. It took my 914 over 6 months to arrive on September 13th 1974.

The car salesman asked if we traded cars often. I laughed and told him since 1974 I have only bought three cars, and I still own two of those. My name will be on the title but this is going to be her car, so I don't consider it MY car.

Check TrueCar, but out here USAA processes their leads through TrueCar, so it's probably the same nationwide. It shows a $2,050 discount from a basic car with a $51,140 MSRP that I plugged in, but that's just local. Each TrueCar dealer sets up their own pricing. You could try Costco- it wouldn't hurt. Technically the Costco dealer could make you come into their store to get the price, but if you're far away, ask them to make an exception. They'd rather have a chance at selling you a car vs lose the chance completely if you're not willing to travel there just for a price.

We have our Macan on order. With the USAA pricing it was a $3,000 savings.

We showed the local dealer the firm offer from the USAA site. They matched the price and now we don't have to drive to Park Place in Dallas. That alone is worth a few hundred bucks.

It was a custom order to get the configuration just the way we want. Now we just have to wait for the delivery. The deposit is paid and the contract signed.

If you don't mind, I'm curious about what options you went with, can you tell us?

We bought a macan S a year ago and haven't looked back. It is a great little SUV.

A few local dealers wanted our business but one a little farther away really earned our business with their pricing and support, even tho they knew going in we wouldn't bring it to them for service they went above and beyond under the premise that we will likely buy additional cars from them in the coming years.

Good call, nice Options. and the fact that you've still got 18" wheels instead of 20 or 21 is nice.

I like the Macan, but I think the missus would prefer the Cayenne because it has more space.
