Maybe as I move forward to my own engine I should seek your advice and start a "how to build my big hotrod 6" thread?

Yes my truck
Not my engine Just s pic of what I want my stock engine to head towards |
my 46 chevy truck project has corvette rear, mustang II type front suspension and 4 wheel discs. currently a 283/350 auto in it but I have a 454/400 sitting in the shop and getting a good deal on a Lt1 crate/700r4 soon so that may change

I like how the ballon tires pick up the curves in the fenders and the strakes on the wheels tie in to the grill slits.
That's where people can never agree on which wheels go on an a fleet side Apache. There are already too many competing things going on with the body, let alone the wheels. I can't look at other trucks for inspiration, I have to look at cadillacs. The early trucks like yours are more forgiving in that they steer you easily towards what works. I love it! ( and I love that your truck, built before there were highways is getting gearing suspension and power to survive on today's roads.) |
For those who fear what my blue truck is going to be influenced by, the answer is rock and roll!

Of course, even springsteins car wears different rims now. Maybe mine will too some day. Who knows ;)

I don't know if that thing could get any more tacky...

Influenced, not replicated.
A little tooled leather inlay on the door panels would be nice on an old truck |

That is because you can't see the entire car in that picture. Don't forget that the marathon is today if you go to the coffee thing. Dog is yipping to go, maybe I will see you over there

I have ZERO interest in this light blue truck.
But love the dark blue one...although I WOULD take either one of those cars! ( but that's the great thing about this hobby, aside from preferences you and I can still have something in common) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1480883354.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1480883394.jpg |
Different strokes I guess. The '57 Cameo is the third year for the "stylish" pickup. The Cameo introduced a whole new concept in mainstream pickups and evolved into the El Camino. They were practically hand made. It's iconic.

I really like Bruce's '60 Vette.
I never really gave them much notice, but what a cool looking roadster! I would love to see a '60 Vette in the same blue color as Wayner's truck. |
old school updating
i love austin healeys with v8s and other updates. this is a 1959 bn6 that i am working on currently. wont paint anytime soon and the aluminum fenders will require lots of fitting adjustment but driveable for now!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1480901052.jpg

My '56 Chevy truck / Rat Rod build fits this category as well. I wanted the inside to look GM factory new while giving it an updated feel. The inside metal on these things originally was very rough with layered panels not finished off at all. Added to that at some point it looked like two kids got inside with a sledge hammer and a shotgun, closed the doors and went to town.
Definitely a lot of time to get the inside metal straitened, repaired back to at least close to what it was like and a whole lot more time in smoothing the overlapping panels and joints to appear seamless. The two-tone colors are exact original, but have been cleared. GM had a satin finish interior colors in their trucks because they were designed and marketed as work vehicles. Further on this build the body is channeled 4" over the frame and the engine set back so the firewall and floor dimensions are radically different than original. Which requires custom / sewn carpet to fit. What you're looking at is called 'Daytona Weave' which looks more like fine embroidery than actual carpet. GM put this style carpet in the 50's Cadillac's and Corvettes only. I ordered it by the yard, made patterns, transferred that to the carpet and cut. Then I had my upholstery guy do a French stitch where it needed to be seamed and then bound the edges with the color tan as the rest of the parts. I just installed the carpet this past weekend, still have lots left to do. I do all my own work, everything but for a few things I farm out. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1585942546.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1585942546.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1585942546.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1585942546.jpg |
Yea, it sounds awesome as well
|
That's a great-looking truck. Got any photos of the exterior?
And didn't trucks of that period originally come with the inside sheet metal satin-finished in a different color than the exterior color? |
Yes the interiors were slightly contrasting color to the outside and as said above satin finish. Here's a shot of the outside a while back.

I haven't had tome to read through all the pages yet but will later tonight when I am at my best.
I don't care too much about the correct nuts and bolts or the wax and shine guys. Ii didn't not grow up in the 60 muscle car era, by the time I started driving in the mid 80s, there were a whole lot of fuel saving 4bangers running around. It was just not fashionable to drive the big old Delta 88 around town anymore. Maybe I don't have the love for those heavy American irons. I do love older trucks so... I committed a sinful thing some time ago and its finally finished. I hacked up a long hood a little bit. Will get you some pics later. She was driven home a week ago. Its need a shake down drive. Now that all the neighbors are home, Idon't want to upset them because the car's loud (straight pipe, Muhahahahaha) and I don't want to piss anyone off because they are all cooped up at home enjoy the time with their families. Oh yeah, most of them are planet saving, grass eating, behind the scene Hollyweird type. |
here's a couple pics I took so last week when I took her home
It went from this to Viper green. I had to cut the tunnel for all the shifting linkages. Its all heim joint, a copy of the 935. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1586034967.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1586034967.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1586034967.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1586034967.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1586034967.jpg |
Sorry man, I can't seem to know how to switch the pics right side up.
|
Congratulations on finally getting that green car finished up!!
|
Beautiful car, look.
What are the lines on the passenger side, oil lines? They look really big. |
Guess you can call it a rustomod. Took a stock 71 914 and added 75 911 front suspension. Converted from 4 to 5 lug and added 73 911S front calipers and a larger master cylinder. Added a carbed 83 911SC 3.0 and reinforced the chassis. Have a front oil cooler and many genuine 914-6 parts. The seats were updated, the headlights converted to H4s with 110/90 bulbs. LED instrument lighting and a full Elephant Racing polybronze suspension. Has a Rennshifter, Fuchs 6s and 7s and dozens of small improvements.
The car is light, with great torque and has supernatural cornering ability. Fortunately it is done, so it is no longer sucking money. Now just routine maintenance. Really enjoy driving it on sunny days and I can’t park it anywhere without being approached by someone who owned one, still owns one, wants to own one or has a friend or family member with one. The great thing about it is that 914 owners are seen as approachable and not Porsche snobs. It’s a real shame when I have to tell them to get the f away and piss off. ;):D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1586054953.jpg |
I dig all of that, very nice looking^^^^^^^
