Our Hooptie grocery-go-getter is a much unloved euro-spec '01 520iT. Paid $700 US for it and promptly dumped about $800 in parts into it to make it less unloved.

We just relocated to Germany from the US and sold the reliable and warranted appliances in favor of shipping the 986 Boxster over and the E39 wagon is the solution to being able to haul more than two people.

It would probably be my son's Jeep Cherokee. It's lifted, with larger tires, and spacers, no bumpers, a top mounted light bar, and exhaust that ends under the seats somewhere. It usually is wearing a proud layer of mud on it.

I bought a 1991 Land Cruiser with 235K miles, and a hole in the block. #5 went out the side. Put a 212K mile motor in it, and she's near 300K now. Our 16 y/o DD's it.

2003 chevy tracker. Use it at a vacation house, has towed a boat, made many home depot and dump runs, moved furniture, and can carry 6 mildly inebriated passengers if necessary.

My GMC Sierra is 11 years old now, and has well over 200K on the odometer. Some rust finally broke through the rear wheel arches this year, but it drives remarkably well. It is getting to the pint however, where I just don't want to throw a whole bunch of money at it for any one repair, as it is all so evenly worn.

It has never been my favorite truck, but it has been dependable and faithful.

2000 Tundra with over 400k miles on it. Toyota put a new frame under it a few years back but the body is crumbling into dust. Still starts right up carries things around when I need it to though.

You're not alone.

The definition might as well have simply read; "See Jalopy."

Here's the thing though. I don't think my truck is worth restoring, but it has utility that is worth far more than what I could sell it for, and it would cost me a great deal more to replace it. I'd like to replace it within the next year say, but right now we are on the cusp of the salt season. I have gotten 11 years of use out of this truck, and all I ever put into it was a couple of wheel bearings, an alternator, and a bunch of brake pads.

It's a great old beast, and I still don't hesitate to put a thousand pounds in it and drive five hours to my parent's place. If I sold it, I'd be lucky to get 2000 dollars...
