Dry Run #2 For Elissa

With such amazing support from all of her friends, I sadly announce we are all safely home awaiting the next call.
The donor was a young male and had phenomena as a result the lungs were unusable....RIP

I can't fathom the emotional roller coaster ride your famly is going through....hang in there!!!

crustychief 12-08-2016 11:25 AM

Sorry to hear about that. Stay positive!

Whoa, what a roller coaster ride, and most of the ride is out of your control.
Tough to be going thru the warm up rounds like this.
But at least modern medicine does offer the chance of a treatment.

Elissa's turn is coming, I feel it. Try to hang in there and maintain positivity.

Give Elissa a hug of encouragement from her Pelican support crew!

Cheers Richard

Sorry to hear the bad news. Can't the hospital check everything before calling people?

unclebilly 12-08-2016 02:19 PM

Sorry to hear it. The good news is that you are getting the call and it will work out when the right lungs are available. It's way better to do this type of things once without complications.

Normally in a brain dead patient they cross match for donors and check for any illnesses they may have, This can take up to 6 hours. A harvest time is selected for all of the organs after Xray and cat scan and other all other testing is complete. The lungs are examined before harvest and again after harvest. This is the point where the transplant team decides if they are good enough for transplant. They don't have time to waist and that is why we have to be at the hospital 8 hours early. In my daughters case if the lungs are GOOD, They will start to remove her longs before the donor lungs ore at our hospital.
That is why we want to be 100% sure before she goes into the OR.

I am so looking forward to the day when we ALL, including Elissa, can breathe a sigh of relief.

Hoping for you!
