what a crappy week
in the hopes that it might make someone else's lousy week a touch better I am sharing my experiences this week.
my beautiful brand new tundra was attacked by a "big, like 10 point big' buck on the way to work the other day. 1500 miles on it and the damn thing does $4,600 in damage. i'm the guy that parks far away from others and seeks end spots to avoid door dings. then I find out I don't have rental car coverage. I mean who the heck wants their car fixed but wants to walk to work for 2 weeks while it gets done? it's like those awful insurance commercials. my fault really but still would've appreciated having it suggested to me. I tell myself to get over it, there are people, even right here on Pelican, dealing with real problems and the majority of the worlds population would happily trade their list of problems for mine. and of course it's darn sure the truth. first world problems. so today i get the good news that my insurance has approved the estimate i got from my chosen body shop. great! i'll drop the truck off today and they are ready to start tearing it down! i think i'll run up to the store and grab a few snacks for the office. get in the truck I've parked far away so i don't have to look out my window and see the damage. put it in reverse. beep beep bee...crunch. as my friend says eff me with a brick, what'd i hit a light pole or something? no, a 535. i guess the good news is it's just a bit of cracking of the paint on the bumper cover and POSSIBLY a slight crease in it. under $1k for sure if not $500. my truck, well the plastic bumper corner is ready to fall off. of course it has sonar and backup sensors in it galore. better my truck than his car though. the guy works for a client of mine. great. i feel particularly terrible as typically a guy driving a 535 around here actually cares about his car and likes it. this is a rural area and bimmers aren't like camrys. apologized every way i possibly could and of course told him i will of course pay for all repairs and compensate him for his time. doing this out of pocket since i don't think my insurance company would appreciate hearing from me again so soon. i mean the first thing was the damn deer's fault as he hit me, i didn't hit him. it's stunning how much damage a big buck can do to the side of a truck. sheet metal is so thin these days. just feeling like a total schmuck right now. can't do anything about a deer determined to kill himself but what kind of ******* backs into a damn bmw like that. rear camera, blind spot alert, backup sensors, the whole damn nine yards and still i tap the poor buys bumper. God bless America that i live in a place where these are my problems right? my lord my confidence is rattled right now. |
Drive on down to Leonardtown this weekend with your shotgun and we'll repel all clay pigeon uprisings.
Rumor has it... Jack got the furniture back for his Fox SW today from 911Targa and we are going to break it in this weekend. A bumper schmuck like you needs some time away:) |
that is most kind of you. wish i could but baseball and continuing ed will be eating up my weekend.

yuck. what a bad week.
but the deer had it worse :) |

BTW, I lost my wallet yesterday, first time ever. I was driving back from my company facility in Morganton, NC stopped for gas in Henderson, NC. I stop there every trip. Hours later I jump off I95, headed home. Stop for some water and "buzzzzt", no wallet to be found. What a freaking morning making sure whomever found my wallet doesn't buy a house on my credit:) |
i watched him getting up on his front feet as i drove away. went back later after getting coverage for office and he was gone. last night my neighbor invites me down for a couple twisted teas. kind of a Thursday thing but he seemed particularly eager yesterday.
it was because he was gonna do his Paul Harvey impression and give me the rest of the story. it involved multiple cop cars and two big guys loading what was described as a monster buck into a white pickup. so now i get to carry the shame that only someone with redneck friends can have of hitting a deer and not either loading it up myself or calling friends to get it. hoping it was a county or state truck and the deer will feed people in need. wouldn't mind the antlers to have knives made i guess. but then by that reasoning the bmw owner should have my thumb or something hanging from a necklace. ready to get this week over with. it's not all bad. the older members of my family would say God has provided already since we picked up about $7-8k in annual tax work over the past couple months. but it does, for me, highlight how fragile one's comfort zone can be. one minute you're proud of piloting massive vehicles around and parking them with masterful skill and the next you're being asked how the hell anyone can back into a car like that. |
Man that sucks. I have a Tundra and a Bimmer so I feel the pain at both ends!
|
As you mentioned it is really just a first world problem. Just money and time.
I do think occasionally of the people going hungry or finding out they have cancer or even dying and how fortunate we all are to just be born in the USA or a free country. Get rental insurance added to your policy and learn to use the backup sensors. ;) |
Yes...in time, this will pass. Hang in there.
My 1st world complaint of the week? Test results in, my A1C was up to 6.9...going to the appointment with my cute young P.A. today...will get a lecture and hoping she doesn't want me to go on insulin. BTW, Cindy's new Camry has a back up camera. Handy stuff. Wish my old Mustang had one. |
I backed into my bimmer with my Tacoma one time :(
That really sucked! (I sold the bimmer but kept the Tacoma after that) |
I was sure this was going to entail losing your favorite trolling spoon....
...or the 43 pounder that broke your line. Bill K |
Bill we've had some luck in the Chesapeake but weather has really kept us off the water. at least 3 chartered trips cancelled due to wind and the last one we went out in small craft advisory. 46' deadrise you don't get uncomfortable until 25kts plus in winds. my boat on the other hand has only been out once this fall. had an epic day with my buddy and our two boys. most rockfish we've ever caught in just a few hours time (i'd guess 80+) but only 2 keepers out of the lot.
been keeping an eye on ocean reports but again weather just not doing us right. |
Same here.
People have been riding the tail of the run from the surf. Offshore has been poor - winds and waves etc. Bill K |
I was having a small pity party this morning until my second patient showed up. 35 y/o with breast cancer and a 4 month old. They did a c section before full term so she could receive chemo to combat the cancer. I was seeing her for possible heart related issues. My troubles seem small.

Sorry about the Tundra. The BMW hit is just rubbing salt in your wounds. Sometimes life just don't treat you right.
Worst day I've ever had bumper wise was the day I nosed my 911 into my Speedster. Yeowch!! |
That's terrible. Remind me to never buy a Tundra.
