Just load an alternate firmware.

dd-wrt, Tomato, Merlin.

They'll typically improve performance, tune-ability, unlock additional features.

As noted on the first line of the website noted in the link ""By convincing a user to visit a specially crafted web site, a remote attacker may execute arbitrary commands with............" this is the big issue. DO NOT VISIT STRANGE WEBSITES!

At the last company I worked at before retiring, some of the very experienced SQL/Oracle programmers would click on links for "free programming tools" or other stuff and bang their computer was junk!

It's shocking how many technical people (as in computer professionals) are idiots when it comes to basic computer use.
