Just like showing up in Hi and romping out into the ocean, just as you might elsewhere can be a realy bad idea.

The cliffs and steep country may look inviting to climbers and adventure hikers from the mainland, it's a different deal in Hawaii with the crumbly nature of the Rock and slippery wet trails. There is little to no technical climbing done in Hawaii. Other than the fire rescue teams.

I've been blessed with my boating to have had access to most remote areas of the islands and enjoyed exploring all over the islands. Especially the Napali coast on Kauai, north shore Molokai etc. But done with caution and respect.

There are still trails that will give you doable access to lots of amazing places with out unmanagable risks.

For the local guys .. One of my favorite hikes goes from the top of Tantalus, to overlooks of both Nuuanu watershed and Kailua, and then goes down a switchback to Nuuanu Falls. Nothing death defying, just a beautiful hike. As teens we'd ride those trails on motorcycles, but there's too much foot traffic these days.

Geary those ridge views on the windward side of Oahu are amazing. A good buddy used to launch with his hangglidder above sea life park and I got tagged to drive the car back down for pickup at the beach below.

That pic you posted of Honopu on Napali , I climbed up into the valley there a few times, the access was the Clift on the end if the point dividing the two beaches. Solid rock until you reach about 70'. And get above the wave strike zone.
Came across a a partially uncovered grave on the top of that peninsula.
The person was in a sitting positioned facing the sunset. Big rocks placed all around except open for the view to the west. One of the most commanding spots on that coast.



Interesting sleeping on the beach there, as there are birds nesting in the cliffs that sound like babies crying in the night. Lots of Mana in that spot!



Friends and I had a session there once when the sand was all washed away from under the arch and you could Surf right into the arch. Only time I ever saw it cleared out like that, had heard old stories from the 60s of it happening.
