So if one of you (you or your spouse or SO) are "sick", do you impose quarantine?
So now it's my turn. On Monday I contracted the somewhat seasonal Rhinovirus-implied Upper Respiratory Tract Infection.....I caught a stooopid cold!
Quite a few years ago I decided to impose night time quarantine at home when one of us would get sick, usually lasting about a week. I would immediately move to the guest bedroom on such an occasion so as to leave my wife free and clear of exposure (or vice versa) while we slept. We would of course also follow sanitary guidelines such as no sharing of towels, frequent hand washing, no touchee, and definitely no kissee/kissee (ok, no sexxx either of course!). Aside from driving my dog Bodi crazy.....he doesn't know which one of us he wants to sleep with so he's up and down all night...argggh!....it's worked out fairly well. As opposed to pretty much a 100% chance of passing on the illness to each other, it's now a little better than 50/50. In fact in the last two "outbreaks" it wasn't passed on at all! What do you guys and gals do...."fack it, if it happens, it happens, not my problem"?!? |
Make out more often to build resistance. Works.
|
I don't get sick. Wife gets sick all the time, I just don't.
|
nah..i just go full on hand washing crazy. and i dry my hands with paper towels.
it is what it is. i'm pretty resistant to colds/flus. probably because i sleep so much. :) |
How timely....Not sick in at least 8 years. Till last night. My old home remedy worked somewhat, but still tired and haven't eaten in 24 hrs. Remedy(Do not try this at home):
2 strong drinks, 2 prescription sleeping pills, 2 aspirin with codeine. Sleep 12 hrs. Probably brought on 5 plow days and 5 snowmobile days since I got home from Tahiti 2 weeks ago?.... (I don't need any lectures here; I'm married) |
We don't bother.
I'd be hard pressed to remember a time where anyone in the house actually got another sick. My wife is a teacher. She's got the real itty bitty ones and as a consequence catches all manner of stuff. I'm pretty fastidious and wash my hands 20 x's a day. |
We share everything.
|
My wife is a first grade teacher. I think as a teacher, you build up a pretty strong immunity over time to what the kids have going around. If one of us gets sick, the other is usually exposed before the sick one shows symptoms. Resistance is futile.

I do my best to quarantine people. it's tough but I institute a no kissing/hugging/drinking after/food sharing rule if someone is sick in my house. also put toothbrushes in mouthwash and wipe off common surfaces when possible (doorknobs, etc). lastly I push OJ and water intake more than usual.
it's not popular but I think it helps. |
MJ has stage 4 COPD. If I get a cold or flue I have to go to a motel..I almost killed her two years ago when I brought home bronchitis..she spent 18 days in the hospital and was circling the drain on us..
|
Yes, rarely get sick though.
|
I swear by Zicam! I start popping them every few hours at the first hint of a cold. Normally Zicam just shuts it down in a day. Sometimes I wait too long and the cold will last 2 maybe 3 days instead of the usual 7 - and the symptoms are much weaker as well.

Should have. I am sick as all hell. Now the wife is sick AND pissed off because I gave it to her!
|
I usually move to the couch if either of us is sick. Seems to work okay.
|
I try, but I'm the only one who apparently cares to not cough on and infect every damned thing in the house. Oh, did I mention one of the Typhoid Mary's just passed their cold to me?

When I catch something (from my reduced immune system), I tend to keep it for weeks. |
