Pallet Rack deck??
 

Hello.
I did extensive google searches but could find much.
Does anyone use pallet racks as a garage?
I have lots of parts around my house and would like to get 2, 3-4m high 2000kgs spec pallet racks, connect them with some iron beams. First level will be parts storage, the top will be a deck.

I suspect such a structure would be covered by municipal zoning bylaws, and seriously doubt it would conform.

For starters, you probably can't build a structure that close to the side property line (assuming that fence is on a property line).

These extensive Google searches for "pallet rack decks" - maybe use Google image search instead?

While the pallet racks will support the weight you have mentioned what you need to consider is the base they will be standing on. For a proper base you would need to drill belled piles to support the weigh and the deck weight load. A engineer who is familiar with your soil conditions would have to design the foundation plans which would include depth, size, number and the type of concrete they would be made of. Anything else and you would be risking your life to be on or under that structure.

Zoning laws only apply to closed i.e. 4 wall structures and So long a rain drains onto my property I'm clear. The concrete driveway is 4cm thick. I plan to use either metal pads or 2cm thick concrete tiles to help spread the weight. I did google image searches too.

I can get 2 4hX2.5wX1.5d meter pallet racks for $700.

As 2.5 cm = 1" that doesn't seem to be thick enough to support the weight load you are planning.

Is there room for a shipping container in that area? If you could get a short one - 20' or so- it would be enclosed and solve your storage problem, and the top could be finished off with decking lumber for use as a deck. The foundation/base wouldn't be an issue since the weight would be distributed throughout the floor surface on the ground.

I would love a container but delivery would cost about $3000.

I'm building a storage area for pallet racks. We are using 4" concrete over 6" base with probably #4 rebar. Rack height probably around 6' for the second level. Most likely I'll try to leave the first level out, so we can pallet jack into it.

As for your appliction, you need pre-engineered buiding with a specialty foundation designed for your soil type and geographic location.

Rob, how much are those Lexan carports?

I was actually wrong earlier. Where the pallet racks are, the slab is 6" concrete over 6" sand with #4 rebar. The reason is to support the concentrated weight of the feet trying to punch through the floor.

Lexan carports are about $3,500-$4000. They are great at acting like magnifying glasses and burning paint. Ask me how I know.
I'm going to check concrete depth. I was told they are build to accept car and medium trucks. Some of my neighbors have those mini trucks.

A full 4" or a 2x4 4"? Here in Ohio 3 5/8 is thick enough because that's the width of a 2x4. It makes making forms 100% easier than a full 4" would.
