The first thing to assume of any intruder is that they are not of stable mind. Many (most?) these days are flying high as a kite on meth or whatever. That's why they're trying to steal your stuff. Somebody in that state hearing a shotgun rack? It doesn't even register in their pea-size brains. When I came face to face with an intruder attempting to break my door down a few years ago, there was not much to do short of waiting for the door to eventually swing open and fire. Luckily law enforcement got there first and they had to taze the POS druggie 4 times before they got him under control. It was like dealing with a wounded rabid wild animal, not a human.

~~~~~~~~~
Keep in mind...depending on what an intruder is under the influence of, a round or two may not stop him...a big hole that bleeds profusely may be a quicker stop.
