I just called the cops on the fireworks going off...
Been at this location now for 20 years and this is the first time I've ever called in on fireworks.
Someone is doing some freaking very loud blasting nearby - meaning just a few houses down! I can handle the normal stuff but these things are like battleship guns going off....scaring the crap out of my dogs and I admit a little unnerving for me. I went out myself earlier and didn't see anyone but enough is enough...these clowns should be on the beach or out somewhere away from society doing this chit... I don't expect the cops to do much but short of me taking matters into my own hands which is/was very tempting....gotta put it in the hands of the safety officials, right? Happy New Year, btw..... |
Happy New Year...now get off my lawn! SmileWavy

It is insane where i live , on the 4th of July or tonight at midnight. They will be coming from so many directions, you cannot possibly take it all in . However , we live out in the sticks, and everybody has a few acres. Pretty safe to do it here .
Our neighbors put on a better show, than the local town . I agree with you though Baz, there is a time and place, and a neighborhood is neither of these . No where better than the shore to fire some big ones off . My buddy who is an officer gets so frustrated with calls about fireworks on the 4 th, and tonight , it is comical listening to him complain about it . Happy New Year Buddy! |

Hrm... its legal to shoot where I am. I have a small dirt berm... and a buddy with a belt fed. :)
|
I've been known to let a 12 gauge go off at midnight.
|
Yeah NYs and th 4th are like a war zone out in the sticks. So we have to tranquillize our labs and they still shake uncontrollably. luckily it is only twice a year.
|
You probably wouldn't like the 1 gauge at midnight.
This is the sticks, it's legal out here. |

Didn't this year. Daughter had a friend over. Would never do such a thing with someone else's child at our home. When I was a child, we would spend New Years at my grandparents home in Muskegon, MI. Blue collar town. At the stroke of midnight, there would be shotguns going off all over the place. A few seconds later, it would sound like it was raining from all of the shot bouncing off the bodies of the cars. |
I would like to sympathize, but ...
I just returned from shoring up the front door of my office building. It's 3:45 AM. At about 12:30 I got a call from the police. One of the revelers from the downtown party in our village got drunk and angry about something and kicked in the front door and the side light. My town used to have a fun neighborhood New Years Eve celebration downtown. Fifteen or so years ago some people from out of town started showing up. Every year it got more and more rowdy. I stopped going ten years ago. I would trade spending two hours cutting plywood and nailing it up for some fireworks noise any day. |
Sorry to hear, Patrick. But not surprising. Remember the thread just a few weeks ago about people who think nothing of destroying other people's property.....it's a by product of how they were raised. If in fact they were "raised".
People say things are no different now than in earlier generations but I have to disagree. I think the concept of respect has been really marginalized for the sake of self-centered behavior. We now live in a world of special effects rather than substance. At any rate.....it's a beautiful day out.....good day for my gardening. I'll try to continue my optimism while also isolating myself from the Cretans as much as possible. Happy New Year, friend! :D |
