I was at a New Years party at the home of two diehard Ohio graduates watching them get their clock cleaned by Clemson. No joy last night, went home after watching the Times Square ball drop at 9 PM west coast time.

Sorry about your troubles.

I think another marathon viewing of The Godfather series would be a pretty good choice for you, therapy-wise.

So far, for me, 2017 is holding steady. Dials look good, temp is good, no turbulence. Sunny.

Sun is out and it's in the high 40's here....excellent start to the new year! It could be a lot worse!

Hate to be the barer of bad news, but Monday is a legal holiday so don't count on your door being fixed on time.

Sunny and 65* here. Wife is taking Christmas decorations down, I'm watching the Cowboys game.

Several years ago my honorary nephew called. Seemed he was owing a bookie $3.000 or so. Betting the spread on football. Poor guy said he was going to have to sell his motorcycle. His lifestyle? Pool player below top pro level...a scuffler. Barely getting by with small tournament winnings of a few hundred to 2 thou at a time, and those times are few and far between, despite him being probably the 2nd best Oregon pool player. Get a real job? That would take away from his pool playing time...

His dad was my "best buddy"...college roomates, hunting buddies. He died in an industrial accident when my "honorary nephew" was very young. So, I've always wanted to support the kid.

BUT...with this call, I wanted him to learn a lesson. So, no money from me. I gave him the same line RoninLB told me when he was here on one of his 911 "big rides".

"Gambling is a business. If you're not in the business, don't do it."

Sorry to hear you've had a tough 24 hours but put it in perspective compared to homeless people, people with no job, or (closer to home) a Pelican that has his daughter hanging on to life hoping to get an organ donor.

I'm sure the next 364 will be better.

Ohio State was no surprise. They had no business being there. Didn't they finish third in their own conference?

A friend of mine was having the same problem as you with a Blue Heron. He contacted the Game Warden to ask what to do. The warden told him couldn't do anything as they were an Endangered Species. He told the warden that this one was certainly Endangered because he was going to shoot him!

2016 was certainly an interesting year. Mostly good for us with the added bonus of the November 8 results. Although we disagree on most everything WD, wishing you and yours a healthy and prosperous new year. Don't let the last 24 hours get you down. You've paid your dues in advance...smooth sailing from here.

OK so Mike was much more diplomatic and gracious to give the same thought I had.

Probably a good thing that you didn't have a bigger bottle available when you got the call that your door was kicked in... I ran out of vodka 20 years ago, and I don't miss it.

Spent the weekend working on the new ceiling and 200 year old plaster walls in my dining room that my wife er, persuaded me into starting just before Christmas. Everybody needs a hobby, right ?

No football for Dan, but at least I slept well.

Here's to a Happy and Prosperous New Year. May all our problems be surmountable.

I heard a good toast recently. Probably not new but I liked it for its simplicity:

May the worst days of your future be at least as good as the best days of your past.
