Jackson MS shooting---you make the call
|
Seems pretty clear-cut self defense to me.
|
Old white guy, young black guy. We're domed. Facts be damned.
|
Had he simply capped the thief I would say murder, as you can't use lethal force to defend your property. But because he was actually attacked, at that point you could make a very good case that he feared for his life and was forced to use lethal force as self defense. But as Gogar said, when do the facts ever matter in cases like this?
|
Call me crazy, but I'm waiting for the narrative where the failed justice system let this poor kid down and it's white people everywhere's fault.
|
justified...
not like he was going to cure cancer someday.. but he was graduate from the hood U.. and had he been armed... would have shot the owner without blinking eye.. Rika |
What was the deceased doing? It looks like he kept picking something up? Was he mentally deranged?
I see that they say he was trying to break into the Lexus but by throwing a rock at it again and again? Really? In Texas this would have been justified self defense. |
Was that his Mom pulling in? Dang that's rough. She tried to help her son but apparently all for naught. I think a motivated prosecutor will make the case that the shooter didn't need to pursue the trespasser. Not murder, maybe manslaughter but I don't know the law at all.

I wonder what he thought he would do if he got in? "hotwire it?" |
First of all, the owner of the business was likely sick and tired of the cars being broken into. I'm sure his intent was to hold the guy at gunpoint until the cops got there. In attempt to hold him, he gets jumped and the struggle starts. Likely, the thief was struggling for the gun. Had he gotten it away from him, you can assume he'd have used it. IMHO...100% self defense.

"McDonald’s mother told the Jackson Free Press that her son was beating on the windows of the car with the red flip-flops he had been wearing at the time." Somewhere in the video I must have missed that part. Anybody else? But that's what you get with the Jackson Free Press "Snowflakes". The local backstory goes kind of like this: The incident happened in Hinds County MS. The Hinds County DA, an African American, has been indicted, arrested, and gone to trial by the State AG for corruption of letting certain folks off the hook and not prosecuting them. The trial occurred over the recent holidays. A mistrial was handed down because after letting it go on for 2 and 1/2 weeks it was found that one of the jurors was an acquaintance of the DA. Many feel the timing of the arrest is connected to the DA's trial and that Mr. Parish is a "political prisoner". And as for the Jackson Free Press, it is a rebirth of what was once known throughout the civil rights era as the Mississippi Free Press.....the owners of such newspaper being none other than the family of the DA. |
OK, I get that your child was killed, and regardless of the problems that they had, you're still going to be very unhappy. The one article stated that the mother said that the kid was beating on the windows with his flip flops. I'm curious if it was the flip flops or rocks. I don't get the mother being thrilled that the guy was arrested because she was afraid that justice wouldn't be done. And then there is this "The victim’s aunt told the Jackson Free Press during a phone interview Monday that the family now fears that Parish would receive a low bond during his arraignment." Why? Are you afraid that he's going to run? Seriously? I'm guessing that this is the same kind of reaction that we see in so many cases where the relatives say "he didn't have to shoot him" or a more recent memory "how else do you expect kids from the hood to get money for clothes. They shouldn't get killed for trying to rob somebody."

Here is an example of the mindset we are dealing with in Jackson MS. Totally unrelated to this case, but the kid was convicted of murder in the end. Enjoy.

Anyone else find it odd that the detective and officer Bubba arrived on scene literally seconds later? So, they had to be at that location while the altercation took place, but didn't notice it happening? They only trotted over after hearing the gunshot? And not even a quick vitals check, let alone CPR attempt? Just "DRT" until random nurse-looking lady (wearing scrubs, so not likely an EMT) walks in and checks pulse 4 minutes later? All while several random people enter/exit the (unsecure) scene walking/talking/pointing? All very strange. If you sped the footage up and added the Benny Hill theme, you'd have something there...
Also, nice response time for the ambo, Jesus... Remind me never to get shot in Jackson, MS. |
What appears to be a Detective and definitely a Sheriffs Deputy arrived on the scene moments later because they were on duty staff at the Juvenile Detention Facility adjacent to the business where the incident took place. That would explain the response time for them.

He should not have chased the kid. I think he (the shooter) escalated the situation. The 1st degree charge is BS. How could one interpret that as premeditated? Manslaughter? Maybe.
