Epic snow, Mammoth edition:

I grew up in MN., back when it really got snow and spent a fair amount of time in Colorado but I've never seen this much snow. The legendary Sierra dump, measured in feet, not inches.

That last photo is a 3 car garage belonging to someone who is obviously not in town. One interesting thing to me is that I've been up here for 24 hours and haven't seen one PU truck w a plow on it. Just huge earth movers and bobcats w augers and scoops.

Just think of it as water that will fill low level reservoirs.

A fine example of global warming indeed.

That driver in the third picture would get a ticket in Winnipeg. :(
Driver slapped with nearly $240 ticket for driving with 'unsecured load' of snow on his van

You guys need to keep that localized, we don't need that kind of snow around here !

The good news is that possibly the drought is easing.

stevej37 01-12-2017 03:05 AM

We don't have near that much snow around here, but the Police are doing their best to enforce the law

It is illegal to leave a car running if there is no one in the car in Oklahoma as well. I don't know how often they write the ticket. They sure don't enforce turn signal use.

Pretty sure that is a ticket here too.

I 80 has been closed up here a couple days. I think it is open now, don't care, not going blizzarding.

Careful out there Denis.

When it snows, it generally makes Californian heads fly up their asses, maybe so the ears don't get cold. Post cranial anal insertion they can't see where they are going, mayhem ensues. Hope you have some bags of kitty litter or a wet haybale or two in the back of the truck. My uncle used to put the weight off his tractor in the back of his in the winter.

I'll be there early next week.. I'll post some better "epic" snow pix...

sammyg2 01-12-2017 06:33 AM

My daughter has been up there for over a month.
She said there's almost too much snow to snow-board in!

In that article is says that there is NO law against it in Michigan, the cop just made it up.

Lots of cops believe it's up to them to be make the laws as well as enforce them.

Mammoth has 20' at the top with more on the way. This is indeed an epic January snow year.

Plus, it was in the owners driveway! I understand if the vehicle is left unlocked and running in the street or parking lot.
I wonder if they could do the same if it's in the garage?

It's chest deep on the ski runs where it's untracked. I'm out there now. Also, I posted this too soon. Woke up to this today:

I've never seen snow like this. :)

pete3799 01-12-2017 12:59 PM

We haven't gotten much snow yet this year. A lot of little storms, 8 inches was the biggest one so far. Lots of rain/ ice......43* and raining as I type.
Been a long time since a normal snowy winter. This was about 4 or 5 years ago.
An 86 Dodge 1/2 ton and a 95 Toyota 4 runner... both retired.

Snowtires?

sammyg2 01-12-2017 02:04 PM

I grew up skiing at Alta near SLC.

Just for fun I checked their snow report:

90" base, 218" snowfall this season.
That's over 18 feet and that's prolly a little above average.

For comparison, Mammoth mountain has 120" base and 230" snowfall.

Crazy.
