apparently my posture sucks.

just got back from PT to address my shoulder pain. both shoulders.

my therapist hammered me on posture. she was on my ass. damn..back straight, shoulders back. my posture is so sucky, it feels unnatural to be doing it right. i'm gonna work on it for sure..i am a solid 1" taller :)

i'll take the PT seriously..i want to get rid of the pain.

how is your posture..?

recycled sixtie 01-17-2017 09:37 AM

Pics or it didn't happen. In green of course. Could the PT have given you some photocopies of exercises that can help straighten the back? I would suggest that...:)

I've read strengthening the muscles in that area help with better posture. Start by trying to concentrate on good posture. In lots of cases, I think people just let their posture just get sloppy. Eventually some get to the point they realize it & do exercises that help and try to maintain good posture.

My new wife takes this posture stuff serious! She's constantly pushing my chest back so I sit up straight when driving and even bought me a Lumo Lift which I'm too lazy to wear.

Try these exercises that my wife suggested. Moderation of course. I am not sure what the rubber thing is named that you put in the doorway.Thee physio will let u know. She suggests exercises #2 and 3. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1484679019.jpg

An easy one is to lift your torso by an inch. This straightens out your neck (good for the spine of course) and hauls your guts in - which always is a good thing too.

Pilates has been good for me in terms of back pain and posture.

You are correct in my opinion.

This April will mark two years of exercising nearly everyday for me.

I looked at some older photos of myself recently and my posture has definitely changed with increased core and muscle strength.

Weight loss has also helped, and without a gut hanging out you are bound to straighten up.

Do a brief warm up every morning (includes upper body - arm rotations) and start doing some push-ups.

FYI: Scooby1961 on YouTube posts some good videos, he's very concerned with people hurting themselves - unlike almost every other YouTube poster. And he's not selling a thing.

I have been thinking about getting one of these to help me with posture issues.

You say she was on your ass? Was she hot?:D

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1484687044.jpgPerhaps you should have given notice to your teachers on proper posture!;)

Product Description

The Foundation 2.0 shirt is our most therapeutic men's shirt, providing supportive compression and aggressive PostureCue-ing of the muscles that support and align your spine and shoulders. This shirt is ideal for athletes seeking the strongest posture improvement during workouts, recovery, running and such sports as football and baseball. Note that proper sizing is very important for optimal product functionality. The garment should be compressive, but not uncomfortable.
I doubt that product has extra material at the mid-section for anyone with a gut.

You might get way with love handles, but really think its made for people already in shape.

Those male models they are showing are pretty skinny.

Would that be the head nurse?

Back in the late 70s, dad had a shoulder out of whack.
We took an international trip.
I was in my single digits age.

In Thailand, I watched him go into a tent with a four ft tall something old woman for a massage.
Dad screamed for the next half hour or so.
I did my best not to rush in.

He emerged smiling.
That smile stayed with him for years and years.

Do Yoga. A big part of yoga is good posture/body alignment.

This guy has a ton of yoga videos on youtube that aren't that namby pamby. Some of them spend too much time talking, and this guy isn't like that.

If you want someone female to watch that's also not namby pamby, then this chick has some good youtube videos

For even more manly yoga, I hear this is good. A guy that I work with that was a Marine is doing it. He was telling me that after the first class or maybe a couple days in a row, he felt the exercises.
https://ddpyoga.com/
It was started by a pro wrestler that had injuries from wrestling including a couple of ruptured vertebra.

They've also got a video on their site about a paratrooper that walked with braces due to back and knee problems that no longer needs them at all.

Walking did wonders for me. Also, lumbar support. Always.

Buyflue 01-17-2017 04:55 PM

Do some ab work. Not fun, granted, but it helps significantly. If you work at a desk, seek out some alternatives to sitting for extended periods of time. Def. helped me.

gduke2010 01-17-2017 05:16 PM

The best exercise for sore shoulders and posture is seated rows with a wide grip. Find a gym and do 3 sets of 10 at least 2 times/week for a month. you'll notice a big difference. the posture and eventual pain can come from working the shoulders benching over the years with out working upper back muscles. Also, avoid doing military press or lat pulls behind the neck. Always front.
