apparently my posture sucks.
just got back from PT to address my shoulder pain. both shoulders.
my therapist hammered me on posture. she was on my ass. damn..back straight, shoulders back. my posture is so sucky, it feels unnatural to be doing it right. i'm gonna work on it for sure..i am a solid 1" taller :) i'll take the PT seriously..i want to get rid of the pain. how is your posture..? |
Pics or it didn't happen. In green of course. Could the PT have given you some photocopies of exercises that can help straighten the back? I would suggest that...:)

I've read strengthening the muscles in that area help with better posture. Start by trying to concentrate on good posture. In lots of cases, I think people just let their posture just get sloppy. Eventually some get to the point they realize it & do exercises that help and try to maintain good posture.

My new wife takes this posture stuff serious! She's constantly pushing my chest back so I sit up straight when driving and even bought me a Lumo Lift which I'm too lazy to wear.

An easy one is to lift your torso by an inch. This straightens out your neck (good for the spine of course) and hauls your guts in - which always is a good thing too.

Pilates has been good for me in terms of back pain and posture.

We took an international trip. I was in my single digits age. In Thailand, I watched him go into a tent with a four ft tall something old woman for a massage. Do Yoga. A big part of yoga is good posture/body alignment.

Walking did wonders for me. Also, lumbar support. Always.

Do some ab work. Not fun, granted, but it helps significantly. If you work at a desk, seek out some alternatives to sitting for extended periods of time. Def. helped me.

The best exercise for sore shoulders and posture is seated rows with a wide grip. Find a gym and do 3 sets of 10 at least 2 times/week for a month. you'll notice a big difference. the posture and eventual pain can come from working the shoulders benching over the years with out working upper back muscles. Also, avoid doing military press or lat pulls behind the neck. Always front.
