Good riddance. Gone are those Italian POS that Clinton foisted on the military. (Sorry, not a Beretta fan. Just my humble opinion.)

SIG has been in service for a while - the P-228 is the M11, and teh Coast Guard has used DAK triggered 229s

They nice when they're new. However, they are well worn to the point where they are pos. If you put 20,000+ rounds through your personal hand spoon, and have it beaten to a pulp by hundreds of privates. Then yeah your hand spoon would be a pos too.

That is the great thing about shooting mostly rimfire. I have at least 20k thru my Ruger Mk II w/ 5.5" heavy barrel in stainless. Give a good cleaning and it looks like new.

Think my CZ 75, a Sig 226/228, Glock (ugh!), 1911 or any other quality pistol will still function at that point, maybe not look the best or be as accurate as it once was...

Umm, I'm also a fan of the CZ 75; and think that would have been a way better choice. My CZ 85 (a CZ 75 with extra bits) would fire heavy loads, light loads, all sorts and never do a fail to feed or a fail to fire. Looked good too and we all know that's more important than anything :D

Somewhat related (hopefully not a thread hijack): I was looking at a P320 today (hadn't considered this model until I read that announcement a couple days ago). Interesting pistol. It seems well made and is less expensive than the P226 I've been considering for a while. Does anybody have impressions on shooting the P320?

The P320 is a nice piece. It fits my hand nicely, has a nice feel to it, and is rewarding to shoot.

I have a real deal Swiss P75 (original 9mm P220). It is a retired Swiss military service pistol. This is my favorite and most accurate pistol. Who knows how many rounds have gone through it before I got it and put another 10k rounds through it? My point is that Sig can make a pistol that is still accurate after ~20k rounds.

Lord knows he's responsible for a number of issues but that isn't one of them. I think testing may have started in the '70's, think it was adopted in '85.

I have several Sigs. All are amazing works of engineering. My favorite is the P226 chambered in .40. Smooth, accurate and I bought it used from a postal worker in CT (no kidding, it was government owned). He estimated over 30k rounds when I purchased it and I've added about 5k since I bought it. Still tight, accurate and looks new. I'm a fan.

The army's selection of a side arm has been the perfect example of government abuse and excess. Not to the caliber of the F-35, but close.

I have a P226 in .40 as well. I also have a P938 (its a mini 1911!). I wanted to buy my dad a nice gun for his 60th, and purchased him a P220.

I had dinner at GEN Milley's house a couple of months ago and he was very frustrated about the procurement process for the Army's new side arm. He made a great point: it would have been easier and significantly cheaper to give him a credit card and allow him to go to Cabellas and purchase new side arms, plus he could negotiate a bulk purchase discount.

Which might happen.

Prez 45 might just put a stop to that purchase order and change the first Spec to "Must be 100% manufactured in the USA by Americans."

Shot my buddy's 226. We walked inside bragging about it where another friend was sitting. He remarked no way would he spend that kind of money. He walked out & shot it. Had one in his hand the next weekend...

My 226 9mm has tens of thousands thru it. It needed new mag springs when my bro donated to me. It was his service piece and he shot all the time. It's still very accurate

I fondled the P320 at SHOT two years ago and bought one as soon as they hit the shelves. Best trigger and grip ergs of any striker gun. But it had a lot of muzzle flip and I tired of it after my second trip the range with it. I had the .40 version. My classic P-series SIGs are light years better, but they are two totally different platforms that share just about nothing in common.

I love my 226 and 938, both in 9mm. Both excellent pistols, great to shoot and dead reliable.

For those wanting a deal on a SIG, my daily spam from CDNN often has trade-ins for $400... some with the DAK trigger (coast guard service), etc.

Yep. The Berry Amendment applies to all DOD procurement contracts, so US manufacturers are already given priority/preference. That said, there have been several oversees companies that have set up DBA's here in the US to satisfy that requirement. The most notable I can think of would be FN Herstal's current primary contracts for the M16/M4, manufactured here in the US under "FNH-USA" & "FN Manufacturing" (previously held by Colt).
