I'm deleting my posts. Wish I could delete the thread. PPOT can mock someone else about something else. I should have known better.

A sad story. That's the past. How you do today matters, right?

Amail 01-26-2017 09:37 AM

How did your upbringing affect the way you raised your kids? I know some of the things I grew up with affected how I raised my kids.

I never raised a hand to my children, my father beat us with his fists or a strap.

That's a good question. It's funny how things work out. I obviously never learned how to be parent from my parents. Our son's mother's parents were both alcoholics and so she never knew what a healthy home was. In spite of our ineptitude, our son is successful and well-adjusted. He and his wife are model parents ( sort of helicopter parents to my mind, but what do I know). Yes, funny how things work out.

We moved a lot when I was young, so it was pretty common to say goodbye to good friends. Consequently, I never made any lifelong friends. I was aware of that and was determined to keep our family in one place so the kids could make some lifelong friends. All good on that front.

I started calling my mom and dad "headband and eye patch", right after mom had cataracts surgery and they came to visit. Dad likes wearing this headband while they drive out of town, that you can either freeze or heat in the microwave. They get the strangest looks from people when they stop at a gas station to take a potty break for themselves and their 3 teacup poodles.

I'm confused. I guess if I could see the OP, I'd have more of a clue.

Actually, reading it again, I'm guessing it's similar to Seahawk's post about his parents. WD, I'm sorry, it's a shame you don't feel like you could leave your post.

Yeah, some things should be left alone. I appreciated it though. SmileWavy

Well I don't know what I missed but I'd have for sure been mature and understanding whatever it was!

+1

This thread and the original from Seahawk were heartfelt.

Yes, heartfelt as it was, Sammy and some others though it was funny and worthy of ridicule. So I learned a lesson and deleted it.

I saw the mocking thread. A shame.

Read an interview with Carrie fisher where it was noted that she apparently had a tendency to 'share too much'. She said 'I think I do that in an effort to better understand myself'. I thought 'darn, that's exactly why I do that! Just never realized it'.

It was one of those quotes I'll never forget.

I was actually trying to mock him for creating that thread, not you. My apologies.

fastfredracing 01-27-2017 03:02 AM

Wholy cow guys, I had not read the original threads, and was only being silly. My apologies. Sorry to you and Seahawk.

Well said.

Sometimes I say too much but looking through the rearview mirror it is like a bump in the road and it will pass...

That's awesome. Good on you for breaking the mold.

I have the sense of humor of a 12 year old. But I am in good company here.

Crowbob 01-27-2017 08:23 AM

My girlfriend told me to grow up.

I told her to get out of my fort!

Fred, I'm pretty sure most of us meant no harm.

tevake 01-27-2017 12:30 PM

Yes it was a very heartfelt and thought provoking post.
The joke made me snort, then give the message some more thought.

It is risky to post any sensitive matter here on pelican, with some of the posters here.

Respect, consideration, and kindness have all but disappeared for some of us, and widely accross the whole of our society, for that matter. SAD!

Aloha Richard
