The HD Milwaukee eight . yawn

I think I have this sorted out now.
Basically, it is the old Evo engine with some of them going to water cooling.
Back to a single cam !
They did what they should have done a long time ago.
A higher C/R, And the extra spark plug.
Ok they stuck in 2 extra valves , but other vendors did that years ago too.
Now 10% more power.........

much like the board track racers of early last century.

When HD was cutting edge engineering. Light and fast.

Well.....a claimed increase in HP and Torque. Liquid cooling allows higher CR. More valve area moves more fuel/air mixture.......With other brands, this was big news in the mid 70's (Gold Wing) and early 80's for 4 valve heads......

Those loyal to the HD brand should be pleased.

I run around with 10.5 CR , big cam, twin plugs and get 45 MPG.
Nothing too new there.....
I have avoided the twin cam craze only to be with the one cam status quo now.
The Evo rides again. LOL

I would like to "feel" some excitement for this new engine...
But yawn, going back to bed.
I would have thought they would go to 4 cams , Like a Sportster , not back to the problematic one

Not dissing your scoot or any others but I'm always amazed how inefficient they are overall. MPG?

Compare and consider today's auto with additional frontal area, four wide contact patch's, overall weight. Then look at the cars efficient transmission, displacement and torque output, hp to weight ratio, acceleration and top speed. Harley's live up to their name.... pigs.

Sweet, they caught up with the 80s - that's nearly half a century of improvement, with modern materials/process. Let's see what they can get from it - looks very compact.

HD marketing 101. Its all about the sound, man!

Funny as the first thing many owners do is change to aftermarket pipes. LOL

I am burning bunsen blue most the time.
45 mpg is not a bad number for a hog
Fuel mileage suffers because the drag/ CO number is horrible .

And with MR12 being about $140 for 5 gallons it gets pricey. I get maybe 1 practice and 2 races out of a can, but it works it's magic on my JD Hord built Triumph.

It will be interesting to see how or if it matches up to the Indian purpose built FT motor.

I think next weekend is Smith Vs Mees. Kaw Vs HD. I'm hoping the Smith Kaw combo pulls it off.

What you knuckleheads fail to get, is for a high mileage cross country bike, you aren't riding at 100% of power 100% of the time. Its more important for a frequent rider doing long distance trips to be low maintenance and easy/quick to fix repair.

Sure for a once a month bike 4 cams per cylinder and sixteen valves and CR that grenades if you don't run racing gasoline is fine.

I like my simple to work on single cam Porsche 944, sure its older tech, sure there are faster cars, but a pigeon brain like me can actually figure out how to work on it.

The flat 1200cc twin in my RT makes 110hp right out of the box. It's 5 years old. The 1300cc four in my K13S makes 182hp (PCV) and is 150,000 miles reliable. HD is so beholden to the crusty old guys that wear their T-shirts they're getting creamed by every other brand.

Perhaps one day they'll build a bike designed for people who take riding seriously rather than pseudo tough guys who want to make noise and look like something they're not. But, to their credit, there's lots of those guys. But couldn't they make at least one serious motorcycle? And no, it isnt the V-rod.

I have a few friends who are involved with the local clubs ( not outlaw types ) and they like to dress up as pirates and seem to be doing or organizing a charity ride every weekend. I sometimes want to ask if they ever just go for a ride because riding is awesome. It seems the group/ meet-up thing is what its about. Not so much turning the wheels.

To each their own.

I think thats fair. HD is not my thing, but if was interested in riding cross country, it would make perfect sense. There are HD dealers and indy shops everywhere. Would I want to get stuck in the middle of Wyoming with a broken Ducati? Nope.
