Does anyone here use Tumblr?

My wife wants to move her photo blog to Tumblr and thinks I can help. :D I cannot figure out the concept or structure of Tumblr. It just looks like a bunch of random stuff popping up on my computer screen. All the reviews talk about how easy it is to put up a blog on Tumblr but I cannot figure it out. Anybody have any experience with it?

I'd avoid it, simply because for every Mom Blog there are 10 porn blogs.

I'm also a curmudgeon when it comes to web stuff - I write the straight up HTML code (or generate it via another programming language) and upload files directly...

BUT... a coworker (who has similar skills, just not as super-geeked) is very happy using blogspot.com for her cooking stuff... Glo's Kitchen

So I'd recommend looking at that.

That might be a better alternative. As far as I can see, you don't have any control over what pops up on your screen. Not good because, as you say, there is a lot of unsavory material there.

You know how your cable tv package has 500 channels and a couple of them are porn?

Tumblr is like that, except in reverse.

Yet another time sink site I don't have time for. I think I'm getting old.

So what's the reason for moving to Tumblr? More views, meaning more ads, more pay? Or is this just another way to reach her customers? What's wrong with FB, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter?

I misread the thread title as "anyone here use Tinder" - and couldn't figure out WTH wd had posted such a question! :)

I don't know. Just an idea she came up with. I'm not sure she knows any more about it than I do, and I don't know squat - so I came to the brain trust. From the posts here it sounds like a bad idea.

Too many viruses on Tumbler..
They have to sanitize that outlet before I would venture near it.

Tumblr is owned by Yahoo. Not very good track record of acquisitions lately...

I'd really think about the purpose of this. Audience reach? Pastime? Make money through ads?
