Your faith in human nature is puzzling to me, but I'm a pessimist when it comes to people... You must be a really nice guy to think that would go well - maybe borderline naive (but in a good way, meant as a compliment)... She told you that to get you on board and to fix her immediate problem, the minute you signal intent to leave you now are a new problem to be remedied...
Seen it time and time again in corparate america. Not nice, I agree, but not surprising at all - I would have said nothing and started looking on my own...

Too late to play it differently now, hopefully you can land somewhere else quick before our economy tanks (maybe?) - lots of crazy stuff going on right now politically that could jeopardize things, Her jettisoning you might play in your hand, be quick about it, uncertain times ahead!

I'm not in the corporate world, but I am amazed that an employer would be responsible for finding an ex-employee a new job. Isn't that your primary responsibility, Lee? Did you really put your faith in that outcome? Doesn't make much sense to me, but what do I know. Best of luck in your search... I'm sure you'll land in a better position :)

Yep. That's me. I do tend to trust people until I'm shown evidence I shouldn't.

Responsibility as an employer? No. As an old friend who made a promise? Yes.

How's it going this week Lee? Seeing anything promising out there? I don't think we've had any new positions posted lately other than the ones you and I have already discussed.

To late advice now, but NEVER tell your employer you are thinking about something else.
Never. Under no circumstances. Not even if it's your best friend.

I had the same situation while I was growing my own business on the side and subbing for a friend. We agreed I would sub for him between 1-5 years until my business took off and I was full time for myself. About 1.5 years later I warned him I was getting too busy to help him and he should find my replacement. He kept giving me jobs until I gave him a hard cut off date. After that, he still kept calling with jobs which I had to turn down. He got upset and started telling people I left town, etc. Took him many years to remove his grudge against me.
However, all things happen for a reason. I've been unemployed three times in my life and it is demoralizing to say the least. I have bettered myself every time. I now have my own business for the last 17 years.

Good luck and keep your head up!

Good advice. Friends are friends and workmates are never true friends.

Always keep your cards close to your chest.

Update your Linkedin profile = talk to some recruiters - this is a good time to be looking for work in accounting - put your resume on Careerbuilder or monster - set up a couple of email searches on Indeed and Simply Hired (where you get alerted to positions that come available that match your search criteria)

Move on - and you'll probably make more money too.

My biggest problem is that most of my experience is in accounting, but I have zero desire to work in the field. Guess I might not be bad in the right situation, but it would be nothing like where I am now.

Had a couple of positive responses to applications this week. One for a QuickBooks help desk contract and another with an insurance company. We'll see if either pan out.
