I am at work right now so I am not able to check the threads here. Oh wait.

I do not take personal calls though and only check here if I have a break or on my lunch hour.

I think it depends a lot on what you do.

As a machinist, when I'm clocked in, I'm working. Although there are scheduled "off times". Unless the power went out, I could almost always find something to do in any given moment, even if t was taking a stack of bolts and threading washers and nuts on them as a pre-assemble for another department while waiting on CNC machines to finish.

Now? I'm often waiting on ray traces, can't really leave my PC's, and can't really bring other things to do in my work area either. I tried splitting what I'm doing now, and still running CNC machines, but often, I'd need to be in both places at once, and the new job had priority, so it didn't work out.

I go to work just to personal stuff. What are you talking about? Self employed here too. My guys would get occasional calls and take care of personal stuff and I am perfectly fine with that as long as they don't take half a day to do it. I feel that makes them better workmen. They drive each other to their mechanics to get cars or truck fix. An hour lost is not a big deal, but they will give me back that time and more come crunch time. Works both ways.

Not self employed, and yes - personal stuff at work. Just don't let it get in the way of getting work done.

I try to keep personal stuff while at work to a minimum. If for no other reason that work could easily know exactly how much web surfing that was if I did. About all I read at work is the BBC news site. Also, work has plenty of filters, no surfing knife or gun sites, no surfing adult sites (not that I would do that at work anyway), etc... Pelican is green at work. Facebook is not, but then I've got a smart phone, so facebook is easily browseable.

I sit next to a guy who's wife calls often. It seems like she calls to ask the most ridiculous questions. I text the missus from time to time, often just to ask how shes doing or say "I love you" frequency dependent upon how busy I am. But if she called as frequently as that guy's wife, it would bug me.

If I need to make a call for personal business (call the bank, call insurance, etc....) I do, but then I usually don't have to do that because the wife is home and can do 99% of it.

There is a limit... Used to be we had to go out and pay the bills during work hours. Now we can do it online.

If it impedes getting the job done then it's an issue.

Never!

Given my employer works heavily in websites/social/etc it's expected we're "online" 99.9% of the time.
