The Music died. :(
|
Bye, Bye Miss American Pie.
That song was ubiquitous in some of my more adventurous moments on this earth. Particularly those moments just after I discovered self-determination and before I knew what challenges lie ahead. |
For me, it's another day like the one when JFK was shot--I remember exactly where I was when I heard the news. I was old enough to love Buddy Holly's music and knew his songs by heart. Richie Valens was just coming on the scene, but I had already bought his 45's and he was my current favorite. Truly felt a loss, even at that young age.
I never bought into the "music dying" thing. It was just a tragic end to two extremely talented young men. It would be interesting to speculate as to the course of rock history had they not died. Would rock have gone into the doldrums when Elvis was drafted, as it did? We'll never know. |
I cried and slept most of the day. I was about 3 weeks old.
