QuickJack or scissor lift?
Trying to decide between [URL="http://http://www.pelicanparts.com/Mercedes-Benz/catalog/shopcart/TOOL/POR_TOOL_BNDpak-detail.htm[/URL] (the 5000 ex) or this https://www.bestbuyautoequipment.com/auto-lift-6000lb-mid-rise-scissor-lift-p/AL-MR6K-48X.htm?gclid=Cj0KCQjwvuDPBRDnARIsAGhuAmb6JO563OdY Al830odniHZM9gTddkaZ4a71Ff3eZcGZSex4WqXKBYYaAo9KEA Lw_wcB (cheaper here, but also sold as the titan mid rise). Not a giant price difference. Of course, I can buy the quick jack here.
![]() The scissor lift has a height advantage, goes to almost 5 feet. But it's not portable, it weighs 1000lbs. The quick jack is quite portable but only gives you 24 in or so using the suv pads. Either will lift a cl140, r129 and 911, the current fleet. If I buy a quick jack now I can move it next Sept when we go to Va., the scissor lift I guess I'd wait on, or load in the horse trailer, I don't know. I'm not sure the height advantage really gains you anything, you can't stand under a scissor lift anyway. My experience has been with 2 post lifts, but I won't likely have space for one at my new home, at least not for a couple years. Thoughts?

The QJ is about space. It can be moved out of the way when not in use, it can allow you to raise the vehicle if you don't have the head room (additional height can be added with the SUV adapters) and it can even be used portably- at the track, at a friends, etc. You just need to figure out which one will be the most convenient for your situation. If you have any specific questions about any of the units, please let me know and good luck.

Well, the scissor lift can potentially do engine drops. For the rest (wheels, oil, valve adjsutments) it's the same.
Personally, I have a scissor lift currently (due to lack of headroom, after many years of 4 post) and..... I *hate* the damn thing. It requires ramps, which are ugly and cumbersome, it's very cramped to position the arms, said ramps are always in the way and kill garage space, it's hard to move, it's heavy heavy.... I'd give the quickjack a try as a do over. I don't really drop engines, so the convenience factor is better with something portable... depends on your goals ! I upgraded to bigger wheels on it so it doesn't get clotheslined by power cords and air lines.

You can do engine drops with the QJ, just requires you to remove more items from the vehicle. Can check out the story here: FREE Ground Shipping With Purchase of QuickJack Lift! Plus FREE ATF & a New Model!

I have a mid-rise lift and one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004K7F8PQ
I upgraded to bigger wheels on it so it doesn't get clotheslined by power cords and air lines. I can drop an ACVW or 911 engine without any hassle whatsoever

I looked at both and bought the Quick Jacks. I wanted full access to the middle of the car for the times I have to take the exhaust off. Weight and ease of storage was also a consideration.
Two feet is more than enough for just about anything and I feel much more comfortable working under them, rather than jack stands. There have only been a few times where a little more height would have been helpful, but I found rolling off the creeper and lying on the ground gave me the access I needed. A two post lift would be ideal, but like you it will be sometime before I have a house with a garage large enough for one. So my vote would be for the Quick Jacks. |
