Got a cool gizmo

Got this for $9 off ebay. Also got a $13 scan program. WiFi to my laptop lets me scan sensors, read codes and reset them. Does some other things I have not tried yet. Works on the Cayman and 98 Chevy truck so far. They say it works on any OBD11 car. Did not really need it but its a fun tool to have if I do. My truck sets an SES light once in a while but it goes away after a few days. Next time I will be prepared.

You have an OBDII cable to USB? That alone would be worth more than $9. Be careful with the 987.2 second generation cars. They have send and receive capability, and the DME has some sections that are re-writable.

No cable needed. Plug the gizmo into the OBD11 port and the laptop sees the OBD stream as a WiFi signal.

^Ah, the white plug on the right photo. Got it. Very interesting indeed.

It is cool. No drivers or software needed. The program I have has send and recieve abilities too. No way am I letting it send ti the Porsche. I may experiment with the truck. First I will use it to reset codes on someone elses truck.

I use a Bluetooth ELM and Torque Pro - They are really good, but they fail to connect on some Fords.

I also use ELM Basic as it allows me to read the timing offset and adjust the Cam Sensor (distributor) on my 98 GMC.

The old scan tools barely get used any more.

I bought a Durametric cable, and a laptop to run it on. Yours sounds like it could be tweaked to re-set the service reminder and diagnose the airbag fault. This is the essence of what makes the Durametric great, at a comparative cost in the low single digits.

I have Durameteric on another laptop. Just bought this on a whim because I wanted something for the truck. Was not even expecting it to work. Just a bonus that it will work on the Porsche. Total cost was around $22. Cant buy a hand held scan tool for that. I like the wireless part. I can leave it plugged in, turned off.
