La La Land *** spoiler ***
Good movie, thought it could have used one more big dance number in addition to the opener.
Ending. Whole time watching the Ryan Gosling piano solo alternate ending I thought it would end with her and her "real" husband acting in a movie. Camera would pan away to show other camera men and the scene would end, she and the husband character would talk to the director, movie actually ending with Stone and Gosling walking off the set together. Hollywood musical with a sad ending? All that for that ending? Craig and Hugh, who do I talk with about correcting the ending?

Is it as good as "Singin' in the rain"?

I think it reflects a rather real view of love, fame and stardom, but it could be like a punch in the gut for people who are currently suffering from loss and just wanted to see a happy movie.
Emotional whiplash is very real for some people. I might or might not be one of them, but I would have appreciated a happy ending in any case. And no, it wasn't as good as Singin' it the Rain, but many people will prefer it. |

Not even close to the classic musicals, but pretty good for a modern take on an old genre.

Really enjoyed it, too. It's a type of movie that isn't made very often anymore, which is nice.
Also, having grown up here in LA, it was entertaining (to me) to guess the locations featured in the movie. And while we take show biz for granted here in LA, this really is a town where people from all over the world come to try to make their movie star dreams come true.

"good looking people" and "beach bunnies" <----- You say that like it's a bad thing.
![]() Seriously, we have plenty of friends and neighbors who are in show biz. They may not be in front of the camera (though some are), but a lot of them have worked hard and earned themselves successful careers. They may not be movie/television/stage stars, but they made it in the entertainment industry, and a few of them have won Emmys and Tonys, which is pretty neat.

I'm way late on this, but I thought it was fantastic.
I actually like the bittersweet ending. I wouldn't mind having that epilogue with my ex of an actress 3 years from now. |

Honestly, the singing was a little weak, and I have never heard anyone really address this.

I've watched it twice now. Yeah, the singing could be better, but I'm ok with it.
It combines my love for film production, jazz, and dance. Someone In The Crowd, City of Stars & Audition are my favorites. And I totally dig The Messengers' sound even if it doesn't really fit the rest of the soundtrack's vibe. |
