What's your favorite NYC steakhouse?
Hello,
Ms. Gogar and I are going to NYC for birthday weekend next Thurs-Sun and staying at the Waldorf. I chose the Waldorf because I want to make some protest signs and walk over to you-know-who Tower and make a difference. Her birthday restaurant is Per Se and I want to go to a steakhouse. I'm trying to pick between Wolfgang's and Keens and Delmonicos. I don't want to bother with going to Peter Lugers. Anyone have a preference, or something besides my choices they like on Manhattan, with a good mix of food/history/atmosphere? Thanks

Peter Luger - nm posted too quick.
In the city - Keens. Actually if you want to protest, McDonald's will be fine. Enjoy. Last edited by Alan A; 02-09-2017 at 03:44 PM.. Reason: Read before post next time |

Why not Lugers? its awesome, and you would be right in the middle of the land of neckbeards and ultra hipsters
![]() Go to Keens, has the meat, the history, atmosphere, it checks all the boxes... There is of course The Old Homestead also..

I'm not up on all of the stuff there, but I've heard that Smith and Wollensky is a good place.
THe Internet certainly doesn't seem to have them in the top 10 though. All of the links that I clicked that were supposed to have a top 10 list included Keens and Peter Lugers, usually in the top 5, often with PL in #1.

The original Palm. 837 2nd avenue.
It's nothing like the other Palms. You can judge a New Yorker by asking them where the Palm is. There are two. They are different. I'd send you 837 2nd.

Smith and Wollensky is a chain, I'd rather hit a onesy.
Thank you!

I second BLT very strongly! New York | BLT Steak | BLT
But, I still love Lugers and it is quite fun as well. All of the restaurants mentioned are wonderful for steak. Hard choice.

I'm not a huge Keen's fan and would pick Wolfgang's over the other two choices.

I gotta say Peter Lugers was one of the best meals i have had. For a musical tie-in, I flew from CA to NYC to see the Replacements reunion show in Forest Hills that weekend and 6 very hungover guys wound up at Peter Lugers for lunch the next day. Food orgasm.

Peter Lugers is great. Recently tried Gallagher's on 52nd. Beautiful dry aged beef and the bone marrow is to die for.

I like Del Frisco's. But that's because my boss had a "coin" (special club, instant reserves), and we ate on the company dime, so what's not to like!
