I Have A 911 Question!

I realize only a few of us in OT still own 911s . . . But you must still remember stuff.

Mine is a DD, or at least a every other day DD. It rains every day here, not every other day. Which is, by the way, why you do not want to move here. I'm taking to you.

Anyway, it bothers me that the wipers don't contact the windshield at the extreme lower corners.

Is this just suck it up buttercup, or is there a fix? Preferably a $0 fix.

Part of the charm :)

sc_rufctr 02-24-2017 05:26 PM

Unless you're willing to convert your wipers to the 993 standard (which I wouldn't recommend) you'll have to "suck it up buttercup".

Just drive and enjoy your car.

Better than broken headstuds.

aigel 02-24-2017 05:29 PM

Wiper delete will fix it! And it is free! Since you only drive on sunny days up there!

Seriously, I don't think there is a good fix. Maybe try different brand of wipers with more flex?

PS: With all the rain here in Cali, may as well move to the soggy northwest.

I tried all the kinds of wipers on my Carrera and the 964T and they all did it. Fortunately, it does not rain much normally in CO.

Think of your glass being half full rather than half empty. Those wipers could instead just blow off in the breeze at warp speed....

masraum 02-24-2017 05:58 PM

I think you're just screwed, but I always used standard design wipers when I had my old '88. Maybe one of the types like a Bosch Icon that just looks like a single curved blade might be better?

But even with the Bosch, the bulk of the curve is in the middle, not at the ends, so you're still probably screwed.

I would very much recommend reversing the park. I think that would "fix" the issue for you. Because then the missed spot will be on the other side of the windshield.

I drove my 911 daily. I remember one time having water coming up the hood between the headlights because I was driving through deep water. It wasn't actually THAT deep, it just built up in front of the car until it got up onto the hood.

sc_rufctr 02-24-2017 06:01 PM

I've used the aero type on my 911 and they were pretty much the same as standard.

Rain-X. No wipers.

manbridge 74 02-24-2017 06:42 PM

Some sort of rain-x product will lessen the need of even using wipers around here.
Does have its detractors though.

Carefully tweaking the arm with a taped up crescent wrench can help.

MBAtarga 02-24-2017 06:46 PM

Just drive faster - the water will stream off.

fanaudical 02-24-2017 07:10 PM

I have tried fixing similar problem on other cars with wipers like the Bosch Icon, and they still miss those corners.

And John's right - you don't want to move up here...

unclebilly 02-24-2017 07:29 PM

Yup. The wipers suck. Some worse than others, none are great.

Charles Freeborn 02-24-2017 07:33 PM

C'est la vie buttercup. Rain x fer me. And it rains more than every day - some days it's twice as bad...

M.D. Holloway 02-24-2017 08:00 PM

never noticed but then again I don't drive it in the rain, or the snow...only when its between 64 and 76 degrees with a southeasterly breeze of between 5 and 7 knots with a relative humidity between 18 and 27...on Saturdays during months ending in r...between 2PM and 7PM, and drunk.

LWJ 02-24-2017 08:21 PM

That is the way it is. They mostly work.

Tobra 02-24-2017 09:09 PM

That is just how it is, windshield is not flat enough for them to work right.

Try not to look out that part of the windshield, I think that might help.

wildthing 02-24-2017 09:57 PM

I'm sure with some time, someone will find a solution.

Just suck it up. Do you really look down through that corner?

RKDinOKC 02-24-2017 10:10 PM

rainx

bickyd 02-24-2017 10:37 PM

just a thought . Could you not add a heavier spring in the wiper arm to draw the wiper to the window with more force. Add silicon to the rubber for less resistance to conformation. if nothing else , not too expensive to try. dan.

jyl 02-24-2017 10:48 PM

Okay, it's Rain-X.

I used Rain-X on my motorcycle helmet visor and remember it working great.

svandamme 02-25-2017 12:01 AM

Sell that POS 911 to me, i'll give you 1500 bucks and you get peace of mind, it's a win win situation

red-beard 02-25-2017 04:06 AM

This is in the wrong forum. Mods, please move SmileWavy

masraum 02-25-2017 06:21 AM

I stopped getting the rainx that you have to hand apply years ago. These days you can get rainx that's an additive for your washer fluid. THat's the one that I use, and it works great.

944 S2 02-25-2017 06:40 AM

Superior german engineering at the time!
Live with it. If you pressure the blade harder to the glass your going to add more resistance, harder on the motor life. Not recommended.

Rain-X was about the only thing that made the one speed wipers in my '66 Mustang acceptable in a really really hard rain storm.
