Adding Driving Lights...
...on my Fiat Abarth and possibly my RAV4. Not yellow fog lamps.
The OEM lights on both are anemic, at best. Been thinking of replacing the OEM headlight bulbs w/LED's and have been researching that. I'd like to add a set of strong & bright auxiliary driving lights that light road in front of me...like it's daylight. I know nothing about which ones to buy...I had a set of Hella's on my Renault R5 Turbo II years ago - came w/the car...previous owner installation. Those babies got the job done!!! Could switch between OEM headlights and the Hella's or have both on. Educate this old fool, please. Name brands, model #'s, lumens, etc. Educational links, etc. I don't care about the law, so just know that. Thanks for any insight. . Maybe I'm talking about off road lights. .

There are lots of choices for aux. LED lights. Look online and find brands that have a good reputation. You might want one to be for reaching out and the other for lighting up the sides of the road.
Back in the day - 1975ish I had two aux. 200,000 candle power as I remember mounted on the front bumper of my BMW 2002. I rigged up a relay - they would come on with high beams or not. On a BMW and probably other cars now also, when you pull the lever back you get an intermittent high beam blink. I mostly used them to "communicate" to other drivers that they left their high beams on. Also, very useful on dark country or mountain roads.

I would want to wire mine independent of the basic system so that I could have the choice to run them on their own or not.
This issue I'm having is finding that company that sells quality products. The info on car forums is overwhelming...lots of data, opinion, and choices. Also, who made the lights on your BMW 2002? Did you mount and wire them yourself? Thanks. . Years ago, on a hunting truck, we had "Flame Throwers" on it...not sure who made those.

If I am the market for driving or fog lights, these bad boys would be my first choice. Not cheap but the off road community seem to like em'. I had Hella driving lights back when I was a pimple face kid messing around in the canyons during the late nights.

If you want REALLY bright, get some 4" housings and put airplane landing lights in them and run a relay. Might not be technically legal for highway use.

I am looking at their bumper flush mount back up light for my new truck, but I have also heard JDM are almost as good. But at 1/4 the price. I am thinking for a back up light? Need to save a few bucks

Rigid Industries® - SR-M2 Series 3"x2" LED Light
Look them up. Someone on the net will sell them cheaper then their listing price. Whatever half way quality driving lights you install on that car, its going to make a huge difference. I am a real nut case about lighting be it in the house, back yard (both has to be designed correct not necessary bright), or vehicle. I get custom flash lights made to my needs. These Rigid lights are the way to go if you want them to perform and last. if not, the PIAA are almost as good but at half the price. |
