An atty who's been disbarred...help.

How can I find out more info? He and an aasociate were disbarred, and he's now serving time over what seems like a relatively small (in the scheme of things - 250k) amount. Need/want to find some details....if he has REALLY done someone wrong (like an elderly person for example), then I want to know.

Stealing 250k is a small amount?

berettafan 03-08-2017 03:29 AM

call their law firm and ask?

Might be a huge amont to some, but white collar criminals seem to avoid doing time for much worse...

Something just does not add up for me...

I think you have to steal a minimum of one million to avoid jail.

Can anyone borrow me 250 grand, friends among friends, you'll eventually get it back , i promise
I have a trip to Vegas planned

berettafan 03-08-2017 03:37 AM

not entirely. you could just ask exactly what charges were they convicted of. that's what the sentence would be based on right? misinformation would hurt their former firm and perhaps they'd take the opportunity to clear it up. particularly if there's some suggestion of behavior that goes beyond what we normally expect from atty's.

Moved up here 2.5 years ago. Wife said that when we retire she wanted to go home to VA. So after following me around the lower 48 for 40+ years, we moved. I miss Charlotte a lot, her not as much.

Well, if the person is serving time, then there is a public record of the trial that resulted in the sentencing. The trick is to figure out which court the trial occurred in: county, state, or federal. (And then which county--the state is usually pretty obvious.)

Lawyer discipline is public information and is published by each state. Here is the link to search for attorney discipline in North Carolina. Home | North Carolina State Bar

FWIW judges often come down particularly hard on atty's who commit crimes, as they feel they've "dishonored" the profession of which the judge is a part.

Or they don't because they know that the loss of the license is a huge kick in the pants. Its a gift that will keep on giving more than time in the pokey.

Generally google is your friend. Just type in google search the attorney name and word "disbarred" I am sure a news article will pop up.
