I like those compact computers. Have been using them since the first Mac Mini. With boot camp it boots up as a Mac or PC (though i've never used boot camp).
Have and old mini plugged into my big HDTV via HDMI. It has a built-in remote and use it for a media server watching my movies, streaming, etc.

Anyway,

Typically get the fastest processor and the most memory I can. Not for what I am using the box for today. But so it will last a long as possible before it has to be replaced to remain responsive and compatible with the world and software.

Get SSD drives because they are FAST for booting up. Currently my drive has 246GB of data on it. Lots of music and videos.
