Not only are they digitizing these for archival purposes they're going back and using modern imaging processing techniques to pull new data out of the old experiments. Very useful data for some.

That reminds me of when I was a kid living in a small town in central southern California. They would announce the nuclear tests in Nevada in advance. I would go out in the early morning and sit in the center of our yard and look to the north east. When it would fire off I'd see a distant flash of light and later on hear a really sharp, brief sound of the explosion like a thunderclap.

I know a guy who made some of those films. He never saw the actual event, always had to have his goggles on and looking away.
