Saw Kong. blech.

For some reason was expecting good things with this movie. Goofy as the Jack Black Kong movie was I found it to be fun and have seen it several times. This movie was really just a bunch of gimmicks thrown in a hat with some very good CGI.

The funny guy from Ricky Bobby was great, however. his lines were well delivered particularly the bit about 'yeah this is a great group of boys to die with'. The acting overall wasn't particularly bad.

To summarize the movie:

Vietnam movie ripoff scenes and music

Nostalgia scenes (first time we see the suitcase record player it's like 'oh yeah I had one of those'. second time it's like 'we get it, move on please')

Samuel L Jackson flat out sucking. The no-name actors did a better job.

Great CGI.

I think this movie was attempting to capture the odd but IMO succesful mix of humor and violence from the Jack Black Kong movie but failed miserably.

My take.

They tried to tell too many stories and ended up with 4 weak arcs that never really fulfilled.

There is the question they ask Hiddlestons character when we first meet him that goes unresolved for the rest of the movie.

Seems it might have originally been meant to play off Jacksons character in a more adversarial way.

Basically both story and characters were underdeveloped.

So the special effects were better than the original? ;)

Much like Godzilla movies, they keep going back and doing it over and over and just change the plot lines and the entire character of the "monster."

overall visuals on the Jack Black movie were better. Special effects in the jack black movie were comically bad in a couple spots but fine in others.

this movie was a bit of an insult to the intelligence of the viewer.

I've always had an issue with the Kong movies starting with the 1933 original.

Kong is not a monster.

He's just a big innocent good ole boy chillin in the hood with his homies till some dudes come along and invade his turf. They tempt him with some righteous poon then kidnap his ass and when he objects to his confinement and makes a break for it they murder him in cold blood.

****ing tragic.

Isn't that normal?
