Tell me about ceramic paint coatings instead of waxing
 

Hey Braintrust!

I recently switched to a new auto detailer guy and he's recommending ceramic paint coating as an alternative to waxing. Says they last 2-3 years on a daily driver and longer for my garaged weekend cars.

Any experiences or knowledge on this? Seems like a no-brainer if they work as well as advertised.

I actually enjoy waxing... It's just takes time that I sometimes don't have.

The new coatings a great, much better than just waxing.

Would make absolutely sure that a very detailed job of paint correction and polishing be done BEFORE the coating. Then after the coating has had a chance to cure, keep it quick waxed. That way road contaminants and micro scratches (smudges and swirls) will be in the quickwax and easily taken care of. You will be waxing and maintaining the coating and NOT the paint.
