Back in a 911 again...

So I sold my Lotus track car and bought a 996.2 from my Dad with 20K original miles. The car is like new and recently had the IMS done using the LN engineering kit along w/ a new clutch (not needed but "while they were in there"). It has a nice combo of options with nothing you don't need.

SOOOO...I figured you guys would be the only ones who care here on Pelican since the 996/water pumper forums here on Pelican are DEAD!:mad::mad:

I guess I have to use Rennlist. I hate Rennlist.

Oh well at least I can still hang out here on PPOT.

Here's some pics...

Congrats Nick. Welcome back to the fold. I'll withhold any jabs over water cooling...for now!

Sounds like a win/win for you and your dad.

I would drive that!
Nice, congrats...

Congrats! Factory Aerokit?

Very nice!

Nice looking car! Mine had the H&R coil overs w adjustable sways and it really improved the character and looks of the car. Not too stiff but really great handling, about 1-1.5" lower.

Enjoy it! 👍👍

Ugh, I would have loved that Lotus! But you aren't local anyway. Phew!

You should frequent the forum here. I have gotten all I need on the 911 and 993 forums for my 993. I also don't like Rennlist.

Yes. The car is stock as it left the factory.

Kind of neat option combo (below from the original window sticker):
Metallic paint
Sport seats graphite grey full leather
18" Carrera alloy wheels with colored Porsche crest centers
Xenon headlight package
Special chassis rigidly tuned
Heated front seats
PSM
Bose stereo
PSE (Porsche Sports Exhaust)
Center console and seat backs painted to match exterior color
Instrument dials painted to match exterior color
Porsche crest in headrests
Flared rocker panels
Deviating carpet color and floor mats in Metropol blue

The Lotus was fun but after 2 years on the track with it I decided I'd had my fun there. That's a lifestyle for sure and I had gone as far as I wanted to go with it. I'm excited to have a sports car I can drive to work, take my kids to school in, etc. The Lotus was definitely not any good for that...but on the track and in the local canyons it was awesome.

The BEST thing about this 996 is that there is nothing special about it. It's a regular old 996. I am going to wrap it in Clearbra and drive it whenever there's not snow on the ground.

Nice - love the combo - the 996 is so much car for the money -

good looking car. and I actually do like the head lights. It reminds me of my 99 cab. it looked real good until I rolled it doing 125.

The two happiest days of my life were when I bought my Lotus Elise, and when I sold my Lotus Elise. I went E46 M3 instead of a 996 though. The Elise was a one trick wonder, and just didn't the ck enough boxes for my needs. The M3 is brilliant.

I loved the Lotus and am sad to see it go. For what it was intended for it is a brilliant car, one of the last true sports cars we'll probably ever see in the USA and a permanent classic. I have a master plan of downsizing my garage and this is step one. I will definitely miss the car and the whine of the supercharger.

onewhippedpuppy 03-21-2017 05:45 AM

You basically got every good option on that car, very nice.

Mark Wilson 03-21-2017 06:18 AM

Very nice! I love my 99 - It's smooth, fast, relatively quiet and handles great. I drive it most of the time and only rarely get the 73 out.

scottmandue 03-21-2017 11:28 AM

Congratulations!
A 996 is high on my list for a fun car when I retire. I keep toying with the idea of other cars but the 996 seems to be the best balance of sporty but enough comfort for a mature gentleman.

911 Rod 03-21-2017 11:41 AM

Very nice.
Best deal on Porsche's these days.

livi 03-21-2017 11:50 AM

Excellent choice!
