Storage solutions NYC for my 911

I will be moving to NYC (Manhattan) in the next couple of months.

Parking is a premium and i wanted to know where folks store their cars when they dont have garage options at home.

Can anyone help me with some locations, options, prices etc?

I'm in northern NJ, 10 miles from the GWB, I could store 1 other car if you like. public transport to get you here isn't ideal, but if you plan to drive a modern car to get you to your 911, I'm pretty convenient....send me a PM or email for more details.

If your looking for someplace where you can easily access your garaged car in Manhattan for less then the commercial monthly lots/garages, your not going to find it. Maybe someplace in Queens or deep Brooklyn as far as getting to it by public transportation. If you have a daily driver then your options open up depending how far you want to drive to get to your Porsche. There are some "boutique" heated etc. car storage spots about a hour out of the city in CT. and Westchester County, some may be near Metro-North train if you don't have another car. I've read that these tend to be around $250 a month. A couple I've found in PCA CVR's monthly magazine are:
thethirdgarage.com in Norwalk CT.
SoNoGarage.com in South Norwalk (2 blocks from train)
Home | Collectors’ Car Garage® | A country club for car in Bedford Hills NY $450 a month
Services | Auto Babysitters -Brooklyn
https://www.tistorage.com/car-storage -Brooklyn

Unfortunately unless you have a friend with a garage or warehouse just outside of the city your going to pay a premium. I would join the MetroNY PCA chapter and see what members are saying. Believe it or not Craigslist might be your best bet.

Thank you for your offer. I do not want to be a burden to anyone, so my preference would be to rent space where i can come and go and fiddle on the car whenever. Without knowing your setup - I am assuming we would have to engage every time, and the last thing i would want is to inconvenience you.

Your offer is much appreciated though.

Thanks for the input. Will evaluate these options.

Try also posting in our Regional Forums - you'll get more eyes there. Make sure to include the city in the thread title. Best of luck!

I might have a space opening up in Ossining, NY. We have a large workspace that we rent to store several racecars and trailers. I will likely be selling one of my racecars and that would free up a spot. The space has 24 hour security, and access is limited to myself and my garage-mate (who stores his E46 racecar and 997 GT3). The car would need to be insured, but that's not an issue for a street driven car.

Jabs- Not a pretty situation here in the city. The commercial parking garages are expensive and they all have rules prohibiting you from doing any work on your car. If you still want to go that route, try Spothero, Craigslist or work through a parking broker. They can get you a pretty good discount to start - six months, maybe a year, but it's still going to be expensive. Also, here's the kicker - the attendants use your car like a bumper car at the amusement park. Expect door dings, scratches or worse. Their standard contract avoids liability for minor damage.

If you really want a place where you can tinker with your car, you're going to need to find a place in Brooklyn, Queens or North Jersey. Again, Craigslist is probably your best bet. Download the MTA subway and or bus maps and triangulate the location against where you are going to be living. If you find the right setup, train time might be half an hour or less, but that would be really fortunate.

Again, a tough market. Good luck.

Are you looking to effectively mothball your car, or do you actually plan on driving it once in a while? I wonder what it's like owning a car in the city. Seems like a lot of people can't get themselves to drive a car right downstairs in their suburban garage, so I can't imagine what it must be like to talk yourself into driving your car if you need to take a subway to get to it.

I feel your pain. I pay a monthly fee for garage storage in Manhattan, and it's not cheap. I may have a solution as a friend of mine runs a BMW shop in NJ and has storage, but it's more long-term, rather than "fiddle with whenever." If that holds any appeal, let me know via pm.

What you're asking for is the ideal - a shop with a lift and tools, nearby NYC, where you can store, wrench, hang, and all for less than the insane garage prices in Manhattan.

If you find it, let me know.

Safe haven car storage in MT Kisco
is a few minutes from the Metro Jorth.
Safe and easy to access. I think $250 a month for 6 months or more.
Ask for Nat.
They are also located next to a huge and fun inside go-karting facility.

Unfortunately like most things in NYC, especially if it involves real estate/space, it's all about money. The less you want to spend the farther out you go.

When I lived in NYC, I rented a 1 car garage from a retired couple in Astoria for $200/month. It was just 3 blocks from the Q train. They lived above the garage which was nice because it added an extra sense of security. The downside was that I could only carry out minimal work on the car in the garage, didn't want to make too much noise. I found the garage on craigslist.

Subscribed. In ten years, I've never found a garage in NYC in which I could park and work on a car. For a while I paid $300/mo for a one-car garage in Williamsburg, but there was barely room to open the doors much less work on the car...and this was in 2008 before prices doubled in the neighborhood. There is a guy down the street from me who races an E30 with a giant garage and a lift above which he lives...I covet this man's apartment, and I suspect he inherited it in some manner from his family. He ain't lookin' to sell. The best I can offer is a private garage spot that has no roof.

I wound up buying a house in Pawling NY with a friend...but it's very annoying when your project isn't right where you live when the motivation strikes to work on it.

Best of luck...and if you find anything...do tell.

I lived in bed stuy for 10 years. Parked my Audi wagon in front of my house mostly. No big deal. Got a 78 sc, moved to Connecticut within a year. Car life is good up here. Drive through pawling at 6 am on the weekend on the regular. Great roads. The fun factor of your 911 will be very compromised. However: like everything in NYC - money can solve most problems. Buy an industrial building in Brooklyn and you can sleep next to your car.

Someday I'll rent a 10K+ sqft warehouse in Brooklyn to store cars, have a dedicated work area, paint booth, coffee bar and transportation to/from the City. Been a dream for years now.

Only way I'll get to move back.
