hunters or cooks how do you cut bone

So, what would you use to cut a ham bone down?

We have a hambone, but it's about 10" long and the missus wants to cut it in half. My first thought was hacksaw, but I don't have one, and thought that there may be a better option so I went to Amazon.

Amazon has a bone saw with a stainless steel blade that looks like a hack saw. That seems like a pretty good deal.

They also have several other types of saw that I think are more geared towards hunters.

Any thoughts? And no, I don't have a hacksaw (well, probably in storage) and I don't have a relationship with a butcher that I could take tho bone to either.

Thanks. I had a sawsall, but when we sold the house, that was one of the things that went with it. The only thing that's keeping me from buying a $5 hacksaw is that after cutting the bone, we'll be cooking with it. I'd rather not have oil or paint in our food.

Hacksaw

Mom has a bone saw, but it is an antique that is out of an old doctor's bag she bought at an estate sale.

cable saw.

Thanks all.

Yup, plain old hacksaw from the garage. We never have to cut bone in the field, so it makes no sense to have a dedicated "bone saw". I do, however, keep a folder like in your second pic in the bottom of my daypack. It's more for whipping up a temporary shelter, though. It's best work, though, is in filling our Christmas tree tag every year. Pretty deadly on those things...

Wash the blade.

Hack saw. Get a blade that isn't painted and wash it in hot water and soap before going at it. A wood blade will not work well.

If you want to buy something, look up "wyoming saw", they are made in the US, collapsible for camping and spot a bone and a wood blade. I have one of those I take with me to cut animals in half (along the spine) in camp if I want chops.

I used to help a neighbor (a few houses ago) butcher deer. He had a stainless steel bandsaw in his garage. Just about any kind of saw will work. Buy a new blade if you plan on consuming. (Like making soup.)

OK, I bought a cheap hacksaw today. I'll just wash the hell out of the blade first.

Hmmm... maybe I oughta wash mine someday. Should I wash it before I use it, or before i hang it back up?
