Two Broken Ribs

Whine, whine. Just back from the local ER. Took a nasty tumble yesterday. Stupid-stupid. Bumped my head on an open cabinet door. Jumped back, lost my footing, spun, fell into the corner of a kitchen counter. Self diagnosis was instant. Knew what I'd done when I picked myself off the floor. Knowing they no longer tape broken ribs, I thought I could tough it out with the pain. This morning I caved. I'm a wimp! A whiney wimp.

X rays confirmed my diagnosis. Got a prescription for a pretty potent pain killer...oxy hook ya stuff.
Winging on it now. Whoa! Scary stuff. Plan is to take it only to sleep, don't want to get hooked.

Gawd, was told 4-6 weeks to heal since the fractures aren't lined up straight.

Was also told "at your age, this often means hospitalization." Oh no...I sure don't want that.

Back to whine-whine.

Damn, that was a bit of bad luck. I hope you mend quickly - the corner of the counter no less. I hate hearing that, "at your age," and "for your age" comments. My brother in law just had a fall getting off of a ladder. His glasses slipped and he lost his depth perception. I hope PPOT doesn't degenerate into all of us old fools taking up space complaining about our maladies and mishaps (not a complaint about your post - just a comment about how the population here isn't getting younger). Take care of yourself.

Lucky you didn't break a hip! ;)

(joke, i'm old too)

That is a painful injury. Stay on the couch.

Sorry to hear about your broken ribs. My mother now deceased did that years ago. She was a tough cookie and complained about the pain. I am sure it will get better in time. Take it easy for a while anyway.
Cheers, Guy

Nasty!
Don't take a deep breath and relax!

matthewb0051 03-28-2017 09:39 AM

Those suck. I cracked two when I lived in Hawaii, got slammed to the ground by a wave boogie boarding.

Took ages to heal. Feel free to whine, you have earned it.

widgeon13 03-28-2017 09:43 AM

Good luck with that. Take it easy and let it heal.

Get off my lawn!

THIS

Do NOT take a deep breath, and relax.

shallow diaphragm breathing is my suggestion.

Ouch! Rib injuries just plain suck. But those oxywhatevers will certainly take the edge off. You should be up and around before the temps hit the 70's. Easy does it Paul.

pwd72s 03-28-2017 09:54 AM

"At your age"...yep, I hate hearing that. But at least I'm still able to make a young woman giggle. Cute young Xray tech. She laughed when I told her if young girls saw me naked, the population growth rate would slow.

Oxy ='s opioid.

Opioids make you itch like a m'fr.

I can't sleep on them.

Feel better.

And they can cause opioid induced constipation. You don't want to have to grunt out a few logs with broken ribs.

Relax and take it easy.

I like the term "pussy," As in, "bttch ass pussy couldn't handle it." It's a lot more manly that "wimp" 'cause gangstas say it.

Oxycontin got popular because it was a time release opioid. You could open the capsule, crush the beads inside, and inject them in your arm. They have a different delivery now, so don't try. :) Oxycontin is still useful as a short term pain reliever (actually, I think you still hurt, you just don't give a *****). It got a bad reputation when some doctors would prescribe it for longer that the recommended maximum. Don't worry if you take the script at the recommended dose and time. Worry if you ask him for another script and he gives it to you.

Sorry to hear that Paul. Broken ribs hurt forever.....Don't laugh, it hurts.

T77911S 03-28-2017 10:28 AM

when I got hit by a car riding a bike, I did something (separated?) to the inner part of the collar bone where it connects to my chest.
I could not even sit up in bed without help from my wife and I am pretty good at tolerating pain.
I figured broken ribs where about the same.

was like that for at least a week. also could not pull my pants together to button them.
also could not turn enough to reach the seatbelt in the car.

Tobra 03-28-2017 10:37 AM

Broken ribs suck, be careful you don't get pneumonia. That kills a lot of greybeards like yourself.

In my car wreck a few years ago I popped a few ribs loose where they attach to the spine. Wish I would have broken them instead so they would have had a decent chance to heal, still give me trouble, years later. Good thing that old booze jockey died not too long afterward, or I would have nailed all his doors shut and set his house on fire.

URY914 03-28-2017 10:37 AM

You need to change up the story a little. Tell people you were at Trump rally and a fight broke out. :D

Deschodt 03-28-2017 10:44 AM

people react differently to meds.. I had Oxy for the first time and that did not really make the pain go away that much, what it did was make me not give a flying $#%$ about the pain, or anything else really... It lowered my already low personal filters quite a bit... I had to bite my tongue in a few meetings, and I stopped taking it ;-) No addiction here...
