******* Driver Who Swerved And Hit A Motorcycle Finally Sentenced To 15 Years In Prison

kach22i 04-02-2017 02:31 PM

Quote:

Crum, who has reportedly been in police custody for the year-and-a-half since his arrest, will now serve 15 years prison time for “two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.”

The Star-Telegram also figured out that Crum had previously been “convicted in 1994 in Somervell County of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and in 2007 in Somervell County of reckless driving and making a terroristic threat,” the latter of which apparently was related to threatening to run little boys over with his car.
They are out there, be careful.

Damn he must have not had a good lawyer

Jeff Higgins 04-02-2017 04:46 PM

He's old enough that he will likely die in prison. Maybe, if things go well, he will share a cell with someone from one of the many non-AMA charted bike "clubs". You know, the ones who are proud to be of the small minority (something like 1%) whose behavior the AMA does not approve. And if things go really well, maybe his new friend will be aware of the reason for Mr. Crum's stay. We can only hope...

sc_rufctr 04-02-2017 04:53 PM

Yes, I remember. I guess his "I don't care" defense didn't work.

What a strange ****ing idiot.

speeder 04-02-2017 06:56 PM

I was just wondering about that guy.

Sometimes things do work out. :)

Whatever happened to that South Dakota career politician who hit (killed ?) a moto-man at an intersection.
Do I have the story details correct?

Don Ro 04-02-2017 08:03 PM

Looks like he kicked the bucket in 1/12/2012.
Served 100 days in a detention center for Vehicular Manslaughter.

~~~~~~~~~~
According to police, Janklow was behind the wheel of his Cadillac on August 16 when he ran a stop sign at a rural intersection about 10 miles south of Flandreau. Scott, who was riding his motorcycle home from his father-in-law's 80th birthday party, crashed into the side of Janklow's car and was killed.
Prosecutors said Janklow -- who had boasted about his lead-foot driving in the past -- was going at least 70 mph in a 55 mph zone at the time of the collision. He suffered head, hand and leg injuries in the accident.
At a news conference before the trial, Janklow said he "couldn't be sorrier" about the accident, but he bristled at reporters who questioned him about his driving record, which included 13 traffic citations since 1990.
I suspect some "Angels" at his state facility will straighten him our regarding sharing the road with motorcycles.
What happened to the motorcyclist who hauled ass on the wrong side of the double yellow line with a passenger on the back of his bike?
Darwin already got him? Figures.
speeder 04-03-2017 08:49 AM
What I really remember are the posters here basically defending the guy or putting the blame on the motorcyclist for breaking a traffic law, thereby deserving intentional homicide from this goon.
Those would be people I hope never to meet.
The idiot in front of him was doing 20mph below the speed limit and he had plenty of room to pass. Should have just let him by and if he crashes, it's on the biker.
Don't think Darwin got him. But he did probably get a ticket, which is the right punishment.
I thought I remembered the same thing, so I took a quick look for the old thread. Couldn't find it.
So, yeah - anyone who would defend Crum's actions, because of the double yellow or something, has issues.
Here's the link. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/887686-nearly-killed-two-people-i-dont-care-because-i-stung-wasp.html
First post under the op reads, "Double yellow."
Later, this, "Bike rider passing in dbl. yellow and even if it wasn't, unlawful to pass multiple vehicles. Single only."
The thread then evolves into discussions of whether or not the driver's story is to be believed--he claimed he was stung by a wasp, remember? Nearly all agree that the motorcyclist should be cited but also agree that Crum should be prosecuted. No one really defended Crum's actions, unless you count those who were willing give the benefit of the doubt to his story, and those were ones who really just wanted to let an investigation determine the facts.
Our memories, which tend to recall only highlights of events the more that time passes, may lead us to "believe" that there was a strong support for Crum and against the motorcyclist, when, in fact, it was more complicated.
Thanks, LJ - you've restored my faith in PPOT. ;)
Oh man, that thread...
Not my finest hour. At least I had some company. :)
If you want to see some terrible riding....come around here during bike week or biketoberfest....ugh......one of these days I will make a movie about the multitude of transgressions I see during these events.
If it wasn't so sad it would be funny......
