9 years, 3 roofs.

Built the house in 08'

Replaced roof in 11'

Getting a new one again this year.

This is why you have insurance and I pay a coupla bucks extra a year for a 1% duductible instead of 2% on the hail portion of my policy.

~$30k each time for the house plus ~10-15k for the cars.

And before anyone chimes in about milking insurance companies it's my carrier who comes out, inspects, and tells me what I need.

That's horrible. I hope they continue to cover you. Is there any kind of roofing you can get to withstand the hail? When I hear stories like this, I'm glad I live where I do.

What sort of roofing, and what kind of hail? I've had hail more times than I can count, and there are small divots on my 10 year old roof. I could very likely get a new roof, but my homeowner's insurance is too high already. My 50 year impact resistant shingles are actually holding up quite well in reality, there's not a true NEED for a new roof.

Our roof got severely damaged in 2012 due to hail. We used a 20 year shingle rather than a higher grade one with the assumption that they would need to replaced due to hail rather than age.

Not the size hail we got last week.

After 2011 my neighbor sprung for a hail resistant roof but it's only good / guaranteed up to quarter size hail.

He needs a new roof again as well.

Not much you can do about solid chunks of ice the size of a baseballs hitting your house at 100 mph.

My friend across the street, my neighbor to the right, two houses behind me, all had water pouring in from holes in their roofs.

We got lucky.

This is one that happened to roll onto the covered patio. Was not going out to the yard to get a better example.

Maybe you could build a roof over your roof to protect your roof!

When I had my roof replaced about 7 years ago from hail damage, I remember the Liberty Mutual guy saying something about the divots cause mold to form under the shingles? Something like that... I went with a 30 year roof and its been fine since. Also had my 2 trucks and a rental car wiped out in that event. I narrowly missed having the 993 whacked in a storm last summer. Missed it by about 3 minutes.

Roof is ~$20k of the 30K.

It's 5,500 sq ft. All the roof's around here have a pretty steep pitch so that adds extra cost.

The rest is my fence and pergola, ~$2k, all my gutters ~$3k, my stainless steel built in grill ~$3k, every screen in the house, oddly not one window broke, can't say the same for neighbors.

Like NeilK said, we don't go for 30 year roofs around here because they don't last 10 on average.

Mine is a 30 year only because my HOA specifies it otherwise I would not bother either.

In 2011 the guy on my left went with the class 4 roof.

He still needs a new one.

I'll need one as well as gutters and screens. I will have to have the arbor near the pool re-stained as well. Cost for living in paradise.

That's crazy how hail is so destructive.....wow!

I've had my place now for 21 years come July and still have the same roof as when I bought it.

Even withstood a bunch of hurricanes!

I lived in TX for about a year and a half many years ago.

Right away two things occurred to me:

Being in the roofing business is secure, steady work, and,
I'd hate to buy a new car in Texas.

I know someone who parked his double wide trailer underneath a pole barn. Helped tremendously in dealing with the Florida sun and after 30 years his trailer survived 2 close brushes with hurricanes and was still in excellent shape structure and exterior wise.
