Saw them here in Detroit in the '70s, then saw them here again a few years ago. They played with the same unbelievable energy, nearly 40 years later. They were from Boston, but Detroit was a kind of adopted home for them, and the love and respect was mutual. Geils himself was not showy, but he could lay down some great licks and knew how to run a great band; everyone always had a great time. A very sad day, as another great one is gone. Unfortunately, the pace of this sort of news will only accelerate going forward, as these icons are gettin' up there. Rest easy.

They have been touring without him for years. I liked him though. When he wasn't playing music, he wrenched on Ferraris.

I just got sick of hearing those two songs on the radio back in the day....not reflective of the band's body of work either imo.

Kinda reminds me of Elvin Bishop's only "hit" song

I saw them at the Rose Bowl or Coliseum when they were one of the opening bands for the Stones first farewell tour back in the 80s. They rocked. RIP J Geils.

You would think these media outlets would assign someone over 30 to craft these articles. Freeze Frame? Really?

1977 was 40 years ago.
Pretty much anyone under age 50 only knows them as the FreezeFold band.
Sorry.

I'm 42 and I....well, maybe I should've said someone under 30 that could dig a little deeper than a couple clicks on google. This morning, the local news anchors were comparing the new '24' to the original when one of the anchors excused herself from comment since the Kiefer 24 was "well before my time".

I noticed more than one news outlet was reporting the passing of J. Geils and kept showing front man Peter Wolf (whom many confuse for being J. Geils). I think many will think the singer died.

In 73 saw Genesis do their "Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" concert at GVSU. J. Geils Band was the back-up. Had never heard of them before then...they were great..lots of energy!!
