Good Online News Website

Hey guys and girls,

Could you please tell me what online news websites you use for good, balanced, and real national and world news coverage?

Thanks!

I go to the news aggregator Realpolitics.com RealClearPolitics - Opinion, News, Analysis, Video and Polls They seem to try to have one news article or editorial leaning one way on each issue and a counterpoint article or editorial linked right next to it. They have a series of news aggregation sites that are a lot of fun: realclearsports.com realclearhistory.com and a few others.

I get my headlines and important stuff from fark.com If it is really important, there is usually a thread here with lots of links to sources.

If I had to go someplace to get real news, I'd start at the Christian Science Monitor website - just avoid any religion related articles. For World News, al Jazeera is good, just avoid anything Israel related.

Remember a similar question from 2 or 3 years ago. At that time I remember stating BBC News and still go to that site for what I feel is well balanced reporting on national and world events.

I go to Real Clear Politics too. Not just for political but for defense, history, investigations, policy etc. A whole host of opinions and facts that tell you the truth is right there in the middle. I don't trust any network and try to look at both sides.

The onion was alternative facts before you knew there was such a thing as alternative facts.

Read at least two news aggregators. Watch network nightly news of your choice with a weekly nightly cable news/commentary rotation including FOXnews.

Keeping tabs on the biases of print media is a good idea, especially the opinion/editorial pages, by reading at least one major on-line paper preferably from your home-town.

That should get you started. Later, you can adjust to suit. Confirmation bias is comforting in that it affirms your mis-beliefs, so beware.

If you don't have the time, The Three Stooges on video would suffice.

The Christian Science Monitor harbors a subtle left swagger and about as far from Christianity as druid rituals.
The BBC tends to be left-leaning.
So know that going in...for both.
.
For example: If you read that the Fresno, CA killer, Kori Ali Muhammad, 39, shouted "God is Good" instead of what he really shouted...which was "Allahu Akbar", then you know that you're reading left-leaning copy.
.
There is a reason why Fox News is the number one cable news channel for 15 years
More Liberals watch Fox News than Conservatives watch all other cable news channels combined.
.
Edit: BTW, for some real entertainment, watch MSNBC TV.

Interesting

How does your favorite news source rate on the ‘truthiness’ scale? Consult this chart - MarketWatch

"Interesting" is not a word I would use to describe this.
IMO, to list npr, PBS, BBC, The New York Times, CNBC, ABC, CBS, as "Great sources of news" in the center of that first chart is for Vanessa Otero, the attorney and author of the chart to admit to, and demonstrate, her lack of objectivity.

Real Clear allows for both side of the issues but it is not a "news site". It is opinion based news not reporting current events.

Considering some of the folks around here ("Let me take your picture") I'm surprised no one has suggested Naked News

icemann427 04-19-2017 07:35 AM

OK, thanks everyone. I'll look into a few of those... :)
