Breakfast Cereal

Once in a while, for convenience, I like cereal for breakfast. Years ago, I really took to Kelloggs Raisan Bran. The only part I wasn't thrilled about were the soggy bran flakes.
Then they came out with crunchy raisan bran..much better.
A couple weeks ago, in Walmart, I noticed they have their own version...this stuff is good.
Crunchy, lots of raisans, and has a cinnamon flavor to the flakes. A lot cheaper than the Kelloggs version.
Anyone else tried this?
Highly recommend! :)

Is it made in China?

I'll stick to Trader Joe's although I don't know where that is made either.

Wouldn't the crunchiness be dependent on how long it's been soaked in milk?

I like Raisin Bran but haven't bought one in years. Last I checked, it had too much sugar. I pick it if cereal was all they had at a hotel I am staying in.

I've been on oatmeal with raisins and nuts for a while.

I've found the crunch stays nearly the same through the whole bowl. Comparing it to the Kelloggs, which gets mushy immediately.
No sugar needed in the one pictured. I use 2% milk with this. Tried whole milk..hardly any diff to me.
Also...more and bigger raisans in the Walmart type.

Since the Super Walmart opened in Eastlake, a few miles away, we have been trying almost everything that is the "store brand" or Great Value. In 99% of the cases the item is cheaper or way cheaper and taste as good or better than the big names!

Laugh if you must but this morning on the early show they talked about measuring the differences in fresh fruits and vegetables and those that were frozen with store brands. In all cases they were equal or the frozen were better!

Usually made by the big names for stores label.

Frozen within minutes/hours of being picked, fished or butcher beats travelling for days.

Yes nothing like fresh from the farm but in the winter 90% of our fruits and vegs comes from thousand of miles away.

To judge how fresh each product was, the scientists measured levels of key nutrients, including vitamin C, vitamin A and folate.

In many cases, there was little difference between the fresh, fresh-stored and frozen varieties.
Oh and I love cereal without milk as a late night snack.

Non-nutritive cereal varnish.

Amazing. So you guys don't give a rat's ass for where it's produced?

You check all your food to see where it's produced?

Yes - absolutely. There is more and more from China, Vietnam etc. - all places I don't trust my food with, especially if there is high level of processing involved.

Are you going to feed your kids hard candy from China?

I have no problem whatsoever with the Great Value brands at Walmart. I buy the big resealable bags of cereal instead of the boxes.

Hard to do but I do not (knowingly) eat anything from China or anything that would touch my food (even harder).

As an example, for the Garlic Lover, China produce more than 75% of the world production.

RKDinOKC 04-22-2017 07:47 PM

I still like Cherrios, and put in my own fruit bits depending on which fruit sounds good or I have some of that day. Sometimes I even make chocolate milk and pour over it.

I imagine the people who do not like food from China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea or many other places....have never been there and eaten any food from the street vendors making Fried Shrimp Rice or Monkey Meat or other rich food stuffs? If you had.....the pickiness level drops away a lot.

No, ate from worldwide street carts, try anything and never turn down anything.

I just will not knowingly eat stuff from China.

I imagine that people who had dogs die from eating processed dog food coming out of China might feel a little odd about similar products for human consumption.
