Picking up a BMW R1200RS on Saturday

Swapping out the HD softail for a BMW R1200RS. I can't say a bad thing about the Harley itself, and I enjoyed the relaxed hurry-free pace it inspired. Unfortunately the feet-forward, high-hands riding position of the HD disagreed with my lower back after about a brief 30 minutes... every bump goes straight up the spinal column with no ability to soak up some of a bump with your legs. The BMW has a much more familiar feet under slightly behind, and slight reach for the bars putting some of the weight on the shoulders which I'm comfortable with from many years of sport bikes. (ala, "gsxrken" handle on Pelican for 15 years now)

I'll post up some riding impressions when I get them. I test road one briefly, the R1200RT and they are brilliant machines. I don't go in for the adventure bike look, and certainly here in metro-NY we don't have the fire-roads anyway that you guys out west seem to have that created that whole category of bike. At 51 and buying a BMW motorcycle, I can't help but think I'm turning into my father. But the bike can sport and tour, and theoretically I can stay out there longer on it. Like a firearm, the bike you should get is the bike you will use. That simple. Anyway, I'm excited to get a new thing. You guys know the feeling. ;-)

Congrats. Very jealous. I had rented an f800r over in ireland for four days and loved it. I have been eyeing the 1200RS lately.
