Yes indeed, not the first time either.

Nice.

O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land, glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee;
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

We all should learn the Canadian national anthem

JJ 911SC 05-03-2017 08:10 AM

Originally written in French in 1880. The English version came in 1906.

"O Canada" had served as a de facto national anthem since 1939, officially becoming Canada's national anthem in 1980 when the Act of Parliament making it so received royal assent and became effective on July 1 as part of that year's Dominion Day (now known as Canada Day) celebrations.

French version:

Ô Canada!
Terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!
Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,
Il sait porter la croix!
Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.
Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.

Bilingual version:

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,
Il sait porter la croix!
Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Bonus points to the fans!

Respect

"Respect" nailed it. Sadly, not something we see much of anymore.

And the American one too. How many high school kids you think know the national anthem?

I remember in primary school the day started with Ô Canada on the intercom and every body was standing up...

I doubt that its still going except maybe in small and remote location.

I think this is pretty cool too. He's right, I wouldn't be able to sing any other National anthem.

As a big hockey fan as a kid, here in LA during the era of the Gretzky Kings, I learned the Canadian anthem after hearing it about 50 times a season.

It is required in the Education Act. So, every single day, in every single publically funded school in Ontario. It means I've likely heard it 200 times per year since I was 4. That works out to 8400 times at school.

Here in Alberta too.
