A lack of vision is no excuse for leadership. Those who can't foresee problems and attempt to head them off, maybe shouldn't be the ones making decisions.

Could not agree more. My work is so much better when I can be proactive.

We were once waiting on embedded SW code delivery for a to be launched networking product and the release schedule was very tight. The CEO of the company (and you would ALL recognize his name I assure you) asked those of us in the SW test group - "Test the code that is going to fail first - so the defects will be found (and therefore fixed) quicker!"

One of the reasons I left my last team is that my boss complained that I "cried wolf too early". Never mind that the problems I described were realized when I said they would be. He wanted me to wait until they were big crises before telling him. Well, he got his wish, as he failed to act when I asked him to. Now he is saddled with a project that is imploding on itself, consistently missing deadlines, overspending, and still not moving forward.
