My head is a melon:(
I thought shopping for sunglasses sucked. Oh nooooo .....buying a motorcycle helmet is eye opening w respect to head size. I think my head grew!!!
2XL. I don't what I'd rather have: a million dollars or my head full of nickels. :D |
Went with a Bell Helmet.

I'm one of the Roundheads.
A Schuberth E1 fits me. |

Hey Vash it is good to see you getting out and buying a brain bucket for your motorbike. I was out on my mountain bike yesterday(I wear a bike helmet) and saw a couple of guys just flying on cycles and not wearing a helmet. I don't get it....

If you find the helmet is hard to pull on or hurts your ears right away, I had this issue with my Bell also and an old racer told me to get an inflatable kid's rubber ball, let the air out, put it in the helmet and pump it up the night before. It compresses the foam but the foam comes back in a few minutes and fits your head much more comfortable. If you need a tinted yellow face shield you can use Rit fabric dye to color the lexan. Make sure to run a dowel between the sides so the hot water will not cause it to collapse. I got that from Bill Simpson hisself!

Seriously, that's a pretty big lid. Most folks that buy MC helmets off the shelf without being (properly) fitted end up with something that is 1-2 sizes too big, and often the completely wrong shape for their head.
Those Bells are mid-ovals (slightly skinnier on the sides and slightly longer front-to-back), so if you have a round oval head, it may not be the best choice or fit. |
Eric is right about fitting to the head....When I bought mine Dave Turner in San Diego had a sort of caliper like tool that measured my head on the sides and front/rear and then looked up the helmets that would fit. I also had to worry about my glasses and needed a large opening in front. In 1998 there were only a couple helmets with openings that would work with glasses without crushing them in from the sides.

Two lids fit me. xL Arai and the bell. Both are fairly tight. One was on massive sale.
I went 10 years car-less. Motorbike only. Been thru a bunch of helmets. I went thru the standard fit test. I'm good to go. I could prob do an XL, but my cheeks were pressed hard. I kinda remember my old Arai on the loose side. I could wiggle sunglasses in easy. |
No matter what the guys say about you, you are a swell guy...with a head to match. ;)
